this is a great thread. i'd love mhk to become some sort of bikers paradise. would be another nice "asian" in the armor (along w/parking garage (skywalk), AA flights, NBAF, etc..)
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Make sure you get the kind where the brakes are in the pedals when you push backward.  Much better for slide outs.

If you're going to be commuting, go the road bike route.  The skinnier tires will make you hate life a lot less and get you to work in about half the time/sweat loss.  Plus, you get the chance to creep people out by wearing spandex into your office.  I'd agree that a name brand is the way to go.  Try craigslist...most importantly, get a frame that fits.  With a name bike, the worst case scenario is that you resell it in 2 months for about the same price you paid (assuming you buy a decent used bike off cl).

taht is the biggest complaint. the tires are tiny...but you can go 20/mph against the wind if you're fit. (ahem saul) ;)

a patch kit will have you up and running again in 30 minutes if you have had practice with it

if you have a flat, remember to fill your tub. then, watch for bubbles.

Would prefer something weirder, like a segway paradise.  Or hydrogen cars.

Razor scooter. I would want to pull a "McFly" and hang on to car bumpers until I eventually end up at my work.

sorry, craiglist, for the most part, sucks for road bikes....most sellers will only sell local. Ebay is shaky too and you'll end up paying quite a bit for your bike as the bidding demand is high for the good ones sized 56-58cm.

Support and buy from your local bike shop. You'll pay a bit more but they will give you a small discount, and push your bike to the front of the line should you need repairs.

continental ultra gatorskin tires (+ keeping proper pressure and not going off any sweet jumps) = never had a flat.

Lots of good advice on this thread.

Here is my suggestion.  Make sure you get all the options !:

I love the smell of peat in the evening.  That smell, you know that earthy smell...  Smells like...whisky !

Question:  Two d00ds - One bike (front and back pegs).  Does passenger ride front or back?  Explain why.  Followup:  One d00d and one female passenger (attractive).  Does she ride different pegs?

I think the front pegs are for tricks, some females and if you're trying to bike w/ three people. if it's just two guys, i'm pretty sure that peg guy is on the back pegs. always.

Good analysis, Rick !  I was thinking this thread was going to have to go to Classless Cats for a minute, what with SD's 'peg' question.   :runaway:

my ride.

I tried commuting a couple of times, but, a 30 mintue tire change is a big hassel, when I can drive to work instead in 8-10 minutes.  And yeah, due to all the broken glass on the way to work (I work in da 'hood) I did have a flat at 7:50 one morning.

Question- how does one get over the massive pain in the gooch/butthole area? like 4-5 blocks later and I'm toast.

Stand on the pedals and coast like that for a while in between pedaling sessions.

My area is lousy with bicycling elitists.  Makes the idea of getting a bike very intimidating.

it just takes a while to get used to then it doesn't hurt after a few weeks of riding

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

They make gel-padded saddles.  You still get sore, but it helps.
