a university president that gets up there that is articulate and straight to the point.

I didn't see a single tear and/or hear the word "serendipitous" once.

No references to the "American Dream" either.

I agree, it was refreshing.

LOL . . . yes, no "American Dream" speech, LOL.

Also major LOL's when Dr. Schulz made a special point to emphasize that John Currie was going to run the Athletic Department not Dr. Schulz.

Full, detailed recap please.

Any listings of the number of Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater and Udall scholars?

Attractiveness level of his wife?

Number of family atmosphere references?

Number of uncomfortable, douchey questions asked by D. Scott Fritchen?

Well, there were a number of family atmosphere references, but IMO that's typical of any press conference of this type.  Wife appeared to be fairly attactive, and yes Currie did mention the "scholars" while he was explaining how he researched K-State.

Get this, Currie said he was going to ask each head coach for a "SWOT analysis".

What's a SWOT analysis?  It sounds good.

Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

He's out buying binders right now.

Steinbrock/bach whatever from WIBW asked him what his initial timeline was.  Meet with coaches tomorrow, have them draw up SWOT's for their program, and then fly out to conference meeting with staff, then back to Tenn for 2 weeks to wrap things up, then back to Manhattan full time.

They asked him about the Victory Campaign, gave a pretty vague answer on finding out what the coaches wanted out of it.

lol.  ron-ish, imo.  did he mention making everyone in the Department read "7 habits of highly effective people"?  possibly giving every head coach a franklin covey organizer?

I would love to see the reactions by Martin and Snyder when this is asked of them and to see the analysis they submit.  I bet Franks is just a big "GTFOOMF" on a piece of non-ruled copy paper and Bill already has his ready to submit because he updates it weekly.

He's an administrator . . . not a coach, it's his job to understand things like SWOT analysis.

Good . . . when your new AD wants a SWOT analysis from the head of each of the programs in the athletic department so he can understand the "lay of the land" right out of the gate.

Bad . . . when your dumbass football coach sends his assistants back to their offices to do SWOT analysis.

Steve . . . . Frank will have Underwood write his up.

lets not call him Dr. Schulz please. too close to Dr. Scholls imo. reminds me of feet which are just gross. also kinda ridic to refer to anyone as Dr. ____, especially on a message board.

I propose we use either of the following when referring to him... "schulzy"  "k dog"  or "dj denver omelette" .  also maybe (maybe here) "dj scotch bonnet" which is like 50 times hotter than a jalapeno so people would know that he means business. thanks.

If I was a coach, I'd be stoked to write this report. Shows me that the AD is actually interested in squashing the threats or improving our weakness (ie- build practice facilities for bball asap).

Please note that ADJC said that while it sounds "cliche" he was going to ask for SWOT's.

Ron Prince would've just rolled that out there like he just got off the phone with Jack Welch.

I'm pretty sure this will deserve its own thread....but pick a sport/coach and give their SWOT analysis:

Deb

Strengths - prayer meetings before games
Weaknesses - shower time is limited
Opportunities - assistant coaches
Threats - men

He's going to have K-State athletics up to 6 sigma in no time. Get rid of muda such as women's basketball, adopt Kaizen practices, and employ poka yoke wherever possible, and we're well on our way!

You know what else is refreshing? The Powertard take on the press conference:

Quote
Even though I've been in my profession for over a decade, I would still be nervous with a big promotion and giving a presentation. It's not like he's giving the presentation within his own company, either. He's meeting a WHOLE new administration and fan base. He's moving his family, etc. Dude has a lot going on, and he's trying to make a good impression, so it's naturaly to be a little nervous.

I actually thought he just came across as amped up/energized more than nervous...which made him seem a bit jittery, but it was positive energy.

As mentioned, I liked that fact he was impressed by the committee and the sense of trust they had, in addition to his ability to pick up on the family atmosphere right away. He seems very detail oriented (the comment about it being 3 months or weeks to the day that he interviewed) and also appears to be ready to "roll his sleeves up" and get busy.

In addition, Fitz' question presented a good point in terms of how he thought he could be successful here. He has experience at both a smaller budget school, and a larger budget school, and managed to win at both. That bodes well for us in terms of him gauging our needs and abilities.

All in all, it was a good press conference and he seems like a genuine guy that is ready to rock.
