QB Gregory likely headed to Kansas State
Another interesting wrinkle for former Bulls quarterback Grant Gregory, who was granted a sixth year of eligibility for this fall and now plans to transfer to Kansas State, where he could be the Wildcats' starting quarterback.

Gregory, who had committed to attending I-AA Eastern Kentucky, will visit Kansas State next week. The school has the master's program he wants to study, and he would be in the same position to get an NCAA waiver allowing him to play his final year on scholarship without having to sit out a season.

Gregory, the son of former USF offensive coordinator Greg Gregory, started his college career at Indiana, redshirting his only year before transferring to USF when his father joined Jim Leavitt's staff. He has been USF's primary backup quarterback for the past two seasons, and was able to get an extra year of eligibility because he qualified for medical redshirts in two different seasons.

Jim Leavitt, of course, gets a chance to help out K-State coaching legend Bill Snyder, who came out of retirement to coach the Wildcats after last season. Snyder coached Kansas State when Leavitt was a defensive assistant there from 1990-95.

One more USF tie-in: Kansas State plays on Oct. 3 in Kansas City against Iowa State, where former USF defensive coordinator Wally Burnham now runs the defense and could face Gregory.

Kansas State is searching for a successor to Josh Freeman, a likely first-round pick in Saturday's NFL Draft. The Wildcats have five quarterbacks on their spring roster, but only one has college experience.

Gregory, much like former USF linebacker Tyrone McKenzie, will have a chance to finish his college career having spent at least a year in three different BCS conferences -- McKenzie played one season at Michigan State and Iowa State before landing at USF, and Gregory is in position to make the same Big East-Big 12-Big Ten journey in a different order.

"Bob and myself had a nice chuckle over that one. Bob told me, ‘How could I say the things I’ve been saying about Kansas State to the kids and go someplace else?’ ”

Wow....that would be a bad sign for KSU if he won the starting job. He was a perfectly fine backup QB, but a starting caliber QB in the Big 12?

Nope.

I didn't know Kansas state had trouble recruiting a QB from Texas. I hope he gets in and does well for them

make it stop.  :crybaby:
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Maybe he is just wanting to get a free masters degree and is not so much looking to be a starter.  That would be a good move for all.  He could help coffman in reading defesive coverages.

Gregory isn't a bad quarterback he backed up Matt Grothe for basically 3 years the guys the son of the offensive coordinator I think lacks a little speed but throws a nice ball he would make things competitive in fall camp.

GAWD, this reminds me of when Prince snapped up that defensive JUCO that didn't even start at JUCO. This selection has gone from EMAW to Egad

Desperation.......
You can smell the perspiration
As the season approaches..
And OB knows he is toast

Desperation...
There's a roster full of bodies
Recruited by Ron
And noooo-body else

Desperation...
These youngsters are hopeless
Why didn't I leave this gig
For somebody else

Don't be surprised to see him lining up somewhere OTHER than QB!  :ksu:

This guy at QB.

Valentine at RB.

Maybe even Manhattan's own Cole Bachamp could step up and start at WR.

Lots of great stories in the fall.
