So, more that likely, the offense is going to be bad this year.   If the Cats have any success this year, it is going to be up to the D.  So which defensive units are going to be the most important to the success of this team?

I say the secondary.  I think the line is going to be good (no Lynch Mob) with Harold   Fitz  :)  Calvin  :blank:  Childs  :)  Abana   The Sack Master  :blindfold:  Crews  :frown:  X  :curse: Kirk  :blank: etc...

If they are running a 4-2-5, then surely they can find 2 LB's out of the scrapheap that is there.  I am excited to see Berard.

IMO the secondary is the biggest question mark.  We know Moore =      But, I can see Herndon really flourishing in this system.  Troy Butler will help as well.  I think if the Secondary plays well and can tackle, we could be 6-7 wins.  If they whiff like last year, 4-5 wins tops.
Either way, I can't wait until the first game.  :ksu:

    Hey, basketball!!!

I say this too. But I hate doing it since we return basically everyone from a defense that was ranked in the 110's and beyond bad. Almost all of our safety's in the 4-2-5 are going to be inexperienced, I don't even think that we have two LB's to step up in this D.

The D-Line is the only thing I'm pretty optimistic about.....

It's true the defense may have ranked bad, but how much of that was due to the coaching they had received.   The defensive coordinator was non-existent.

How much of it was also due to the offenses inability to convert a 3rd down and general ineptness? I say at least 20 spots in the rankings.

Relying on the defense for a win is our worst possible scenario IMO. I have nightmares that include the following: 3 and out defensive stop yaaay. 3 and out defensive stop (but with hands on hips). 3 and out defense starts to bend, but stops. 3 and out the defense turns into a sieve and the opposition begins to feed on us like a pack of hyenas. If we are somehow like 6 deep on the D - we should be good. TP, is there ANY WAY you can make it through the NCAA clearing house again? You can use my name and SSN, I still have eligibility!!!  :D

Water is wet.
"When Beasley dunked in the second half to make it a 12-point game, that was the loudest moment I’ve ever experienced at a college hoops game - Allen Fieldhouse included.”

Have you ever actually watched football before?  If the D constantly throws 3 and outs, they won't get tired.  And defense wins games at every level of football.  Pretty sure there is some sort of famous phrase about that...

Offense wins games but defense wins championships?

An additional thought:  The best way for a team with inferior talent to compete is through defense and special teams.  See:  tcu.  Never recruit very well, (typically in the 70s-80s) yet they are able to compete on the national level.  (Granted, their conference blows, but they tend to do well in bowls and noncon.)  We won't be talented enough to win any shootouts with the likes of TTU, UT, OU, uk, etc, but if we are able to get them to play ugly with us, we have a chance.  Along the lines of Nubb basketball.  Ain't much fun to watch, but more fun than getting your heads beat in every week.

i'm always impressed by the nebraska basketball team.  i'd also say how navy plays football(in the fact it's an unusual style that most teams can't stop on a week to week basis)
