OSU's Zac Robinson joins Big 12's top 40 list at No. 17

Zac Robinson is poised to become the top statistical quarterback in Oklahoma State history.
With a strong supporting cast surrounding him, Robinson emerged as a solid starter in his first full season as the Cowboys' quarterback. In the process, Robinson became the first OSU quarterback since Donovan Woods in 2004 to start every game.
And he could be poised to capture the national spotlight if the Cowboys live up to their lofty preseason promise later in the 2009 season.

Why he was picked: Robinson is one of the most versatile players in the Big 12, passing for 3,064 yards and 25 TDs and rushing for 562 yards and eight more scores last season. He was one of only four players nationally to run for 500 yards and pass for more than 3,000 yards. His 2008 season was marked by a school-record 65 percent completion percentage. And he's posted five 300-yard passing games and three 100-yard rushing games earlier in his career. Robinson will start the 2009 season as the NCAA's fifth-ranked active career passer (155.3) and already holds the school record for total offense.
What 2009 will hold: For all of the big numbers that Robinson has produced in his career, a couple of breakthrough victories like the Cowboys' triumph at Missouri last season will help his notoriety more than another big yardage binge against a lesser opponent. The Cowboys have a strong cast returning with players like Dez Bryant, Kendall Hunter and Russell Okung coming back. Robinson's rushing numbers and his average have gone down from earlier in his career. He likely doesn't need to be the threat with his feet that he previously was. If Robinson can build on his previous strong play earlier in his career, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Cowboys could contend for the Big 12 South title and the first BCS bowl appearance in school history. And if that happens, Robinson will unquestionably be remembered as the greatest quarterback in OSU history and one of the Cowboys' greatest players.
