I don't really know anyone who has been affected thus far.  My retirement account has taken a huge blow, but I doubt that will affect me when I retire.  I may even be better off for it, right?

Go ahead and share your own sob stories, ksufans.

Pretty sure it will make an upcoming car purchase much easier as well.  Like, I will prolly be all high and mighty towards the dealership employee and whatnot.

i can't say that i actually know a single person who has been effected by this either. it's like the worse things get...the better they get. cheap stocks, good deals on cars, meats and cheeses for 90% off. it's like freakin' spring break over at Daris U.

Just a little note about foreclosures:  25% of 2008 foreclosures occurred in only 8 counties.  50% of foreclosures in '08 occurred in 35 counties.

I have been affected by the economy.  Because of that stupid stimulus bill, I've had to work extra hours to complete some phases of the K-18 rebuild from Ogden to Seth Child.  I'm also not allowed to stay in Manhattan anymore because it is considered "too close" so our production on a 'rush' project has decreased.

the biggest effects we all will feel have more to do with the devaluation of the dollar and the resulting inflation we'll experience.  will be ugly.   :ohno:

You are working on the K-18/Ogden project? That's cool. What do you do? I drive by there every day and have been wondering what the hell is going on. No work was done in the summer...than BAM...right when winter hits, they start working...

I did work on that bridge a couple of years ago (geology for foundations).  The project I'm speaking of is the new alignment of K-18 from Walnut St/K-18 at Ogden, across the fields to the east, by the airport, up the hill, to where the construction for the current Seth Child interchange ended.  If you've seen a drilling rig either along the shoulder up Stagg Hill or out in the fields south of the spiderweb by Ogden, then that was probably us.

Oh ic. How long till they start actually building that realignment? Judging from the plans i saw on the ksdot site, it will be quite a project. But if it makes that road less hectic, It'll be worth the wait!

Everybody is in a huge rush.  Apparently to qualify for stimulus money, the project has to be let by March of next year ( :runaway: ).  There is a LOT of work to do yet.  Originally it was to be let in 3 phases, but that obviously won't happen now.  I don't know if it will still be constructed in 3 phases or not.

Of course, if things fall apart and they don't make it in time, I have no idea what will happen.

The last budget figure I saw was $250 million for the whole thing, but that was over a year ago.

That's a lot to do in that short of time. Hopefully they don't get half way through, then run out of money. Looks like plenty of stuff will change to get that freeway built ( moving the railroads tracks, cutting through farmland, overpasses, etc)

A new freeway would also make the airport look a little more desirable. With the NBAF facility coming in, hopefully some bigger airlines will make some flights into MHK. Then we can fly some recruits right into the Little Apple  :ksu:

Because of that stupid stimulus bill, I've had to work extra hours to complete some phases of the K-18 rebuild from Ogden to Seth Child.

Could you please dig a moat instead?  Ogden ppl need to get their own fracking school district and stop making ours all stinky.

As long as they don't come to the Junction City District, we don't need anymore of 'em.

Hoover actually.  You have to go back at least before him to find anything in this country that actually resembles a free market.  Every economic problem since then has been a government thing.

There's a moat included in the project.  It runs from NE of Ogden down to the Kansas River.  It's called an overflow channel.
