Sorry JMart but I thought the calling of parents was very weak.  Maybe calling the parents of transfers although you never had Prince's side of the story.  Classic thing was that some of our most talented kids transferred because they weren't working(going to class, or whatever).

I mean what did you expect old man Spexarth to say?  "Well, Jeff, other than the fact my son plays OL like 'Roller Girl' in 'Boogie Nights'(always on skates and on his back) I can't quite figure it out?  I think he's being picked on for being soft since none of the other 4 OL positions seem to be having this musical chairs line up".

You're reaching JMart and reaching bad.  Calling the parents of benched players to find out what they think?  Gee, Clayton fumbled, AGAIN, wonder why he's not on the depth chart?

Telling everyone you played college ball and then later admitting that you didn't... now thats weak.
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

Why is Figurs still first team, then?

Figurs has fumbled once this year and has made contributions elsehwere.  He did haul in a 68 yard pass, Clayton did nothing.  He did RECOVER a fumble.  Clayton did nothing.  He did provide great punt coverage as a gunner. Clayton...well, you get a picture.

I believe it's the first time Figurs has put the ball on the turf this year.  Not Clayton.

Figurs is producing.  That is my thought as to why but he may have another reason, who knows?

Nice try Goldbrick, still going w/ the old joke that Leland started I see.  Good work.

What, was that Clayton's second fumble?  I still say Clayton is easily our best RB.  He's not any good, but he's the best we've got.  I like all the other changes.

I don't mind Patton getting the nod at all.  Could be a faster version of Fischer whom many liked and would be clamoring for right now.

I did wonder why all the calls were to parents of benced players and not any to parents of players that were new starters.

New starters parents aren't going to say anything newsworthy.

However if you talk to a a parent of a kid that just got benched there is the chance they say something like "Ron Prince doesn't know his asshole from his earhole".

I thought it was a good read and a heck of a lot better than anything howard richman ever writes.

That would have been close to the truth about Spexy, huh?  Say, weren't all of those o-linemen supposed to be really good or something?

clayton is the best passblocker and has the best breakaway speed (but he has to be completely untouched for that to happen and well...) but ideally, based mostly on what a lot have said about our o-line blocking scheme, he doesn't fit what we are doing.  we'll probably have to sacrifice a few more sacks to get our running game going at this point.   either way i'm pretty tired of everything else clayton.

This is what Hatter wants you to do:

Go talk to Prince and current starting players parents only. That way we can hear the rosy red (non)story we all want.

Wouldn't want you to uncover any smoke. It could reveal a fire of some sort. But nothing is wrong. If your intuition says otherwise than ignore it. So don't go digging.

Oh that's precious coming from a fan of the school where every beat writer in the state and the KC metro area has their noses so far up the ass of everyone associated with the athletic program they inhale gastric acid.

Give me a frickin' break, Beak.

When did the involvement of parents in articles/interviews among the media become such a big thing? It seems that in the last several years parents have been much more in the spotlight than they ever were before. Ten years ago were parents interviewed and quoted by reporters/journalists as much as they are today? To me, calling the parents of Clayton, Spexarth, or any player to try to find out what, if any, turmoil is occurring might not be wrong, but an ethical line seems to be approached/crossed. The whole parent involvement recently has just seemed to take a turn for the worse.

Nice to see some VOR on this board imo.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Manhatter would be the voice of reason for the Iraqi Information Minister under Sadaam.  It's a f'ing story that he didn't like because it potrays his university in a bad light.  Nothing was factually wrong.  Everyone had a field day when Nebraska was having players leave and talk to the media about 2 years ago, now that it's on the other foot all of a sudden we expect the local media to just sit on their hands.  Everyone seems to fluff J-Mart when he's getting the Huggs scoop or when he calls parents to get the scoop on b-ball recruiting...but God forbid he cover and document what looks like the start of a larger weeding out process by the coaching staff.  It's pathetic.

Hmmm, I told you how to do your job?  Nice exagerration there big guy.  I like most of your stuff but I thought calling the parents to ask why they were benched was a bit of a reach.  Forgive me for reading one of your pieces and forming an opinion...I guess if I don't tell you how to do your job then you can tell me what opinions I shouldn't form.

Seriously, what did you expect the parents to say?  I didn't realize Prince needed a permission slip to bench a RG for failing to pass block, run block, false starts, etc.  I like most of your stuff but thought that was a reach.  Shame on me for having an opinion.

Quote

So old man Clayton and old man Spexarth are now knowledgable confidants on the building of a football program?  Umm, okay.  Great quote from Bill Snyder...not good quote from old man spexarth and old man Clayton.  None of us know whether Prince knows his asshole from a hole in the ground and neither do the parents of two benched starters.

Quote

Nobody wants rosey if the man demands thorns.  If Prince is a disaster then I'll want him hung up by his balls in the press as much as the next KSU fan.  But calling the parents of kids who were just demoted...sorry, I don't see it.  And he wasn't going to unearth some big fire in week 5 of Prince's first season by interviewing the father of a kid who can't cut it on the OL.  He's not out to get the kid...you don't see this happening w/ the other 4 OL.  It's one position and they simply aren't cutting it right now.  No explanation is necessary for why Prince is benching an OL who isn't cutting it.

Yep, that is how it works.  JMart writes stories for public consumption...people are free to provide feedback are they not?  Like I said...I LOVE a lot of JMart's work.  Hell, I'm one of these dipcraps who is using fake names to ask silly question on his Q&A because I love his personality.  And while I will openly and gladly pump JMart for stuff he digs up for scoopage I will also voice things that rub the other way.  Should it be any other way?  If your boss/friend/spouse/child/coach/client/customer whatever likes something they will tell you and if they don't then they will let you know.  Is that a big deal? JMart's a big guy..he can take it.

Quote
Hatter definately thinks he knows everything.

LMAO.  Hatter has admitted to being wrong thousands of times and will do so many times more.  Big deal.  Not sure where you get that from...so what if I have a strong opinion and stand by it.  If it's wrong then I'll own up to it..always do.
