I want to buy a new little camera.  I know nothing about cameras.  My old one is a Canon and it worked good I guess.  Is this one good or is there a better one that is a similar size?  I want one that takes HD video.  tia

ok, whatevs, is that a good camera or not?  I need something that fits in my pocket, takes HD video (don't know if I actually need this but want it), and obv. takes good photos.  I also kinda like the Panasonic FX150 and I saw Samsung has a similar one and sony came out with some as well but I haven't looked into them yet (was planning on researching more this weekend).  I can't really tell the difference between them feature-wise and don't know anything about processing and lenses etc.

Just bought this little diddy online for $137 two weeks ago.  Takes good HD video and has a fancy LCD touch screen.  I'm sure the photo 'xperts will make fun of Kodak, but I'm pretty cheap and this works well.

I have the exact camera you linked to as my "carry around just in case" camera, it works well.  I'm not a fan of the video feature, but for it's size and price it gets the job done.  Canon has a lot of really cool accessories and different lenses that are fairly inexpensive.  I know a few people who have Samsungs and they are trash.

I don't think you can go wrong with any Canon.  I don't have a little Canon, but I do have an XTi SLR.  I love it!

As far as that camera, it seems that 12 mp is excessive for that type of camera.  I've heard that a 6 mp camera can give you a 30x40 lossless pic.  My XTi is 10mp and the size of the pics is incredible.  If you don't have a way to backup your pics, you need that as well, since a camera taking that size of pic will quickly swallow up almost any size hard drive.

yeah, good points.  I don't really care about the megapixels because i've been told that exact thing.  Unfortunately all of the compacts that I have found that take HD video are in that pixel range so I'll just eat hard drive I guess.

SD,

Don't know about that particular model, but Ken Rockwell says:

All Canon compact cameras are excellent. The reason I love the Canon SD880 above all others is that its controls are laid out in an unusual way which lets me shoot the SD880 with only one hand, blindfolded.

Here is his web site:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/

Mrs. cyclist has the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS and loves it, BTW.

I love the smell of peat in the evening.  That smell, you know that earthy smell...  Smells like...whisky !

I shoot a Canon, Everyone I work with Shoots Nikon.  I love both; but all my lenses are Canon, so I'm sticking to it.

Kodak IS trash, and I've never heard of anyone that liked their Samsung or any other piece.  My in laws shoot nothing but olympus...  s'kay.... but very low teir...  Olympus "Pro" line wouldn't match up to Canon or Nikon's "Amateur" line.

My advice, go to the store; play with it, and if it seems easy to use, get it.   I've never used that particular model; my "emergency" carry around camera broke a couple years back and I've never replaced it.   Now I just carry around a damned camera bag with essentials.   I'll prob be replacing my pocket camera within the next year or so.   Whenever I'm not worried about "lay-offs"

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

qft

I have the newer rebel XSi 12 mp...it's amazing (battery life has been unreal). You also can't go wrong w/ a canon point and shoot imho.

No hard feelings.  I just hate kodak.
what sucks about kodak is they come up with all of these revolutionary ideas that are supposed to make things "simple" for people that don't want to know alot about photography, but as soon as the idea is printed, published, & put into action they just drop it and never expound on the idea and it just floats off into space.  It then becomes a hassel because there are a million different quarks when dealing with several Kodak models because every model they make has some "New! Amazing! Can't live without feature!" built into the software that you have to use or the camera is useless.   It's just a pain in the ass and kodak will never be taken seriously until they stop treating photographers like children that need special red eye reducing with awesome canned sound effects to take a &@#%ing picture.   But whatever man, it prob takes a nice picture, but I don't have the patience to deal with the &@#%ing thing.  ya know?

nothing pisses me off more than when someone brings a camera to me wanting me to teach them how to use it, and it's a &@#%ing kodak and I can't relate basic photographic principles to any &@#%ing button on the damned thing.

Canon AE-1. The old style from the mid 80's. For you younger pups, that means 35mm. Takes GREAT photos.

    Wait...what?
What I learned on/still use when I want to shoot 35mm:

If I could just stick an LCD/digital storage on that fracker, I'd use it 100%.

What I use most of the time now:

When I get enough money saved up, I'm going to get a Digital SLR.  I shouldn't have blown $500 on the SLR-type when true SLR's were just around the corner.  Still, I've gotten some nice shots with that camera.  Fully adjustable, just can't change lenses.   :crybaby:

We have two Canon point and shoot digitals and they are vastly superior to the Kodak's and Olympus we used to use.

There's a new sheriff in town.
When it comes to cameras I am very brand loyal to Canon.
Have owned Canon's my entire life...from film to the current Digital Rebel XTi. They have always performed flawless for me.

I don't have a Canon point-n-shoot. Mom bought me a Kodak point-n-shoot for Xmas and it is trash.
I tried it like twice and haven't touched it since. I'd rather carry around my SLR.
