It is a better machine.  It does not have the quantity of titles that the 360 has.

Blu-Ray helps, and hurts.  It drove the price up of the PS3, as did the complex hardware.  I read something that said that Killzone 2 (the title mentioned in this thread) only uses 60% of the PS3's capabilities. Whether that is true or not, who knows, but developers are having a harder time developing for the PS3 because of the hardware.  However, the PS3 has long term plans, just like the PS2, and I see it as a viable platform for plenty of years to come.

The PS3, imo, has plenty of quality titles.  The 360 just has more titles. Generally big titles anymore are cross-platform so it doesn't really matter.

rusty, there's really no reason for you to get a PS3, your TV only goes to 720p.  if you're after a dvd player for it, just buy a cheap upconverting dvd player.  if you want a game system, buy the 360.

I can't watch anything that isn't in HD anymore.  It looks horrible.  Blu-Ray is sweet.  Playstation 3 will start coming out with more titles, yes.  However, more titles doesn't make it better.  It is the quality that makes it better.  Yeah, go by a 360, play it for a couple months, get the RROD, send it in to microsoft, rinse, repeat.  Great idea.  Or you could just get a PS3, be able to play Blu-Ray, and not have your system break.  Not have to pay for the online portion.  (not that it's that much money).  I don't know why someone would buy a system from microsoft.  They know that they break, but they don't fix it?  They just keep making systems that they know will break.  The PS3's capabilities are much higher than the 360's.  They say that the PS3 will be on the same level as microsoft's next system.  (which will probably break.)

first of all, all electronics have some failure rate, included in "all" are ps3's.

if your 360 does break, microsoft fixes it for free, and within 2-3 weeks. 

people buy the 360 because it's currently half the price of a ps3.  it's also currently the most popular console and has the best online content and gaming experience. if you're only looking to game on a console, then the 360 is the way to go.

Ignoring the RROD stuff, you are wrong - the Wii is the most popular console right now.  If you are only looking to game on a console, the Wii would probably be the best choice, as it does nothing else but game. 

I agree though that Rusty wouldn't need a PS3 for blu-ray if he has a 720p television.
