Yep, the Arcade version will work. It comes with a memory card. Also, MS is selling a 20 GB hard drive to those with the Arcade version for $20. Here's the site http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/hardware/memoryupdate/default.htm. You only really need a memory card if you're just playing sports. If you want to download demos, videos, etc. get the hard drive.

The new 360's have completely new hardware. They will be good.

Yes, the new systems now have the "Jasper" chipset in them which should be much more reliable (though there aren't nearly as many RRoDs now as a year and a half ago). The new systems also have 256mb of memory built into them, so the memory card is of no need. If you want to make sure you get a Jasper scroll to the bottom of this post and it will explain how to spot 'em.
