Get a progressive scan DVD player and some component cables.  You can get it for less than $100.

not to hijack krusty's thread... but I ordered this over the weekend. was going to get 42 but kinda decided at last minute to go a little bigger. anything will be better than the 27 inch eight yr old walmart sanyo that we currently have.

If I get a tv anytime soon, I'll most likely get the Panasonic Plasmas. I need a review.

PS. Just get a cheapo blu ray from Best buy or Walmart. You can get good quality HDMI and wallmounts for real cheap at monoprice.com.

component uses RCA cables just like composite, right?  I could prob. make my own component cable from crap laying around the house?

DirecTV is getting installed today.  Just in time for tha game 2maro night.

You really want to use HDMI cables with DTV, quite a bit better than the component option.  Just buy the cheapest HDMI cable you can find.

I've actually used HDMI and component one right after the other and didn't notice a difference in picture or audio.  I use HDMI because of the convenience of one cable for video and audio.

I basically have the same TV, PN50A450... probably just a very small difference in outputs/inputs, etc. But I've been pretty pleased with it.  Got it for $1000 with a $400 valued 5.1 Samsung surround sound included when Best Buy had them on sale.

I'd say overall I'd give the TV a 4.3/5.0 stars!

Huge difference on DTV.  I tried both and the picture quality was noticeably worse with component on both sets.  Maybe you have a crappy set and can't see the difference.

:billypopcorn:

I've only been to watch DVD's on my crappy player, and so far I like the TV's display better than my uncle's 46" sony for DVD's.
no, they're not the same.  RCA has more resistance than Component.  you might be ok for standard definition stuff, you might just  get a black screen.  you should really order a cheap HDMI from monoprice, they're around $10.
here's a 6ft HDMI for $8

get it.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I've noticed a slight difference between HDMI and Component. Colors seem to be a lot better with HDMI, including blacks.

I see differences in sharpness & edges as well.  Which just makes sense as you're introducing an unnecessary video D/A and A/D step with component or composite versus HDMI.

:dunno: pretty cheap never heard of the brand.

Pass.

If you're spending hundreds of bucks for a tv, spend a couple hundred more for at least a middle tier brand like Vizio or something. Costco has a 47" Vizio 120hz for $998.
