"K-State amazing top to bottom"

Anyone else go to opposing team coaches quotes directly after a blowout win for us?  Love to hear them talk about how awesome we are.

Quote
On whether K-State is a well kept secret...

“From what I have seen yes, they are. I watched about five films on K-State and after every one of them I said that these guys are just fun to watch. I told coach (Martin) that you guys are really fun to watch when I was talking to him before the game. They shoot the three, press, and run the break, every thing that the fans want to see and you do it well. I think they are well kept secret. Oklahoma has a pretty nice team as well as Virginia Tech but I don’t know how they will fair against the North Carolinas of the world but I don’t know how anyone can fair against the North Carolinas of the world. Blake Griffin makes Oklahoma so good; if you take him off I wonder how good they would be. I don’t think that is the case with K-State. They can run three players in and take three players out and you wouldn’t be able to tell any difference except for their jersey number in terms of the how the flow of the game goes. The level of play doesn’t drop off, the pressure continues. They play with a sense of urgency that most teams don’t play with.”

Opening Statement ...
“Kansas State just shot the ball so well and they out-manned us at every position, they just man handled us. We have played some tough competition this year, playing Oklahoma to a four-point game and Virginia Tech to a three-point game. South Carolina beat us by 15 but it was really a closer game than the score showed, it was a five point game with five minutes left to go in the game but we just couldn’t hold them down. This is by far the strongest team we have seen this year from top to bottom. It was a mirage of three pointers and rebounds and everything you can talk about, great pressure defense and a well coached group. They are fun to watch on film and they are terrible to play against. I hate having to play against them because as a coach you know what is coming and you try to tell your players but they just aren’t ready for it because we don’t have those kinds of athletes to practice against. We try to go over the pressure that our kids will see in practice but when it becomes live it is a 150 mph for our kids. I wish we could have played better and the way we played at Oklahoma and Virginia Tech because maybe it would have been a 30 point loss instead of a 50 point loss, or whatever it was. I think K-State would have beaten us regardless of how we played tonight. They played well in every aspect of the game. I can not think of anything that they did wrong or really bad. The execution was perfect on offensive and defense. They hit shots, they hit free throws and they didn’t turn the ball over very much. I don’t know what we can take out of a game like this except for being embarrassed and hopefully that will push us to play better in the next game.”

Think about it.  Not having Beasley makes our bottom look much much better than it did before.

Also makes the team play harder apparently.

This is really a great SLTH thread.  SLTH teams and their fans really thrive off getting validation from coaches of bad teams that they beat badly.  Especially when the compare them to earlier ranked or near ranked opponents.  Thanks to Coach Scruggs for the great comments.

Hey, not saying it isn't fun to look at.  But at the end of the day, this is really the truth of the matter.

Teams that aren't very good get excited when bad team's coaches say good things about them and their recieve votes in the polls.  We are still at that point.  Hopefully we can get past that someday, but who knows.  Its all good, just stay  :kstatriot:.

Agreed - fans need to get in the seats. I don't see any way that Frank would turn down a job in Florida if attendance continues to be this way. I know when conference play opens more people will show, but this 6K at the Sprint Center and less than that v. teams like G-Webb has to end.   :users:

attendance @ UF would be worse. Our crowds (outside of the KC one) are excellent.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

I did not mean the University of Florida - as Donovan is probably there until he'd like to leave.

Schools such as Miami (FL), for example.

My impression is that Frank wants sell outs - that is excellent attendance - and not sell outs in just the monetary sense, but in the "butts in the seats" sense.

Even if this is true, Frank can be pulled from Manhattan, not a lot of strong ties to the place.

ya, why stick with the school that gave him his opportunity to coach in the B12, let alone any BCS program?  an opportunity whereby he'd have the opportunity to coach a slew of NBA players within his first few years, including beasley.  why have any tie to a program that hooked him up with dalonte and our EMAW fanbase, and GRCOAT??

These decisions have to do with things other than basketball as well - I'm just saying. Would not want to lose this guy in 3-4 years if the recruits continue to come in.

We've averaged around 8200 in Bramlage this season. It sits 13+.  That's not even 2/3 full on average. This is not excellent attendance.

Actually, an average of 8K+ for what we've had so far isn't that bad.  It will prob drop a bit for these break games without the students, but we should have an average for the OOC of around 8K.  Get the normal bump for Big 12 play and we should end up between 9-10K for the year which would still be the Top 60 for the NCAA (#50 averaged 9800 last year).  Not great, but far from being horrible and definately not nearly as bad as our fans are making it out to be.

1 - Agreed and I hope Frank understands.

2 - In regard to this "#50 averaged 9800 last year". Don't give me some raw figure of attendance across the country and tell me it matters. Stadiums are of different size, thus 9500 somewhere is a sell out - at Rupp Arena it is nothing. At The Octagon it is about 70-75% capacity. We need to be nearly selling games out to get an elite program in Manhattan. We just do not have any locational advantages to draw many players or coaches, so we have to make it up in other areas (such as attendance).

1st, you've got to compare with something.  And the programs with 20K capacity are few and far between, most high-majors are going to be about like us, 10-15K.  And IMO in what is likely an NIT year, 9500 would be a pretty good number.  Last year was great, but the draw was 2 NBA players, now Frank has to build a program that draws.

IMO that is a big difference, and while the diehards will show, we haven't reached the point where the "average" K-State fan is going to pack up and go to watch a game vs Wagner for $30 per.  We can complain about it, but that is reality.  You don't become an "elite program" by going to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in 20+ years.

To me it isn't just about the fans or just about the product.  Its going to take both, and college basketball experience over time has shown that usually the product brings the fans.  Hopefully Frank can continue to build where 10K will be the smallest crowd we have, but those days aren't here yet.
