Sqwawk fans are all "Danny Manning's the best big man coach in the country because Cole has made so much progress." (To be fair to them, the get that from their profoundly retarded announcers.)
The progress of that Mickey D cheeseburger is nothing compared to what Frank et al have done with the lump of clay they got in Lou.

He still sucks?  Good game, though.  If he can do that against ANY BigXII opponent, I'll rescind my comment and apologize, and I'll let him punch me straight in the face.

Any Big XII opponent?  'Cause Colorado might deliver you a concussion.

From JMart's KCStar article today:

Quote
“I’ve been waiting for that,” the K-State coach added when Colon was out of view. “He’s worked his tail off.”
"Actually, there’s still some there, and some might suggest it’s one of Colon’s best attributes. But what went lost during his first two seasons, when he was 25-30 pounds heavier, out of shape and nursing a torn labrum, was his surprisingly soft touch and his deft skill around the rim.

He’d run back and forth three times and club someone, just to stop the game,” Martin said."

I already stated that I had always been a hater of Lu, and I enjoyed what I saw out of him the other night.  He's still one of the most unathletic looking basketball players I've seen, but he's stepped his game up for sure.   I just hope he can prove me wrong again and again.  If he can pull off just a portion of what he did in this game against big 12 teams I will be happy.

He's not doing an 18-11 game against CU.  Our team isn't much better than CU.  Well, most of the time they are , but sometimes they aren't (see Iowa game)

    I survived the Dickey/Parrish era.
Colon kind of reminds me of Ed Nealy (more so before Luis lost 35 lbs)...

Tremendously painful to watch run up and down the court-no grace at all-if it weren't for the others on the court, some special olympics event might come to mind.
Quietly works himself to good positions on the defensive and offensive boards-his size takes up the needed floorspace to capture a decent amount of rebounds.
Inflates his rebound count by missing simple layups and clanking shots off the underside of the rim, lucky enough to grab it back for a 50% in-the-paint shooting percentage
Mistakes are usually big, highly visible mistakes -- making an easy target to get chewed by Frank.  Jack wasn't nearly as vocal, but "the look" would rip a player to shreds and Nealy got the look on a number of occasions.

Watching Lou last year made me srsly wonder if he was a kid that was supposed to be in some kind of Special Olympics event and due to some kind of wacky mix up was accidentally given a Division 1 athletic scholarship.  There was probably a movie made back in the 80's with this exact plot.  (Similar to "Soul Man")

Anyway, losing the weight will help him but i'm pretty sure last night was the pinnacle of his career.  If he can duplicate that during conference I will shart myself with surprise and excitement.

Who would have thought after last year that Colon would score 18 pts and grab 11 boards in a game this season.

Even Gilz had a 20+ pt game.  Still sucked ass.  If he does it two more times I'll climb onto the bandwagon until I fall off mid conference season.

Its the point that nobody can deny he has come miles from last year even

You're probably right.  But there are a couple of teams in this league who don't have any quality bigs.  I could see a couple of double doubles in league play if he stays agressive.  9-9 from the field is pretty impressive, however you slice it.  And dog is right, that putback was something that I never, ever thought I would see Colon do.

Yes, actually we can.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=273292520

http://www.kstatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=3087&SPID=213&DB_OEM_ID=400&ATCLID=1287660&Q_SEASON=2007

A 22 pt game where everyone thought Gilz was going to be this phenomenon and actually contribute turned into a 3.9 average, a layup attempt vs. Oregon, and a 5 game suspension for being a tool.  But at least he was "funny" right?

When Lu does it in a couple games or during conference, then by all means go nuts, but right now a simple nice game, Luis will do.

He dunked the stick back he ran the full court to get.
I don't think he'll be all league, but I think there's a general underestimation here.
