We love our 2005 Acura TL. It runs great, and in five years when we want to trade it in the resale will be at least 20% higher than comparable Sedans in its class from Chistler, Furd, or BM.

but that 20% will go towards paying down the bailout so,

SEE EVERYONE WINS!!!  :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:    :yuck: :yuck:

The real humor lies in the fact that the government is apparently going to appoint a "car czar" to approve the business plans of the auto industry.  Likely as not they'll have the Soon-to-be-Extinct 3 building little put-put golf cart like things and $pendy hybrids just as gas prices go through the floor and the public begins buying more large vehicles.  If there's to be an American auto company left standing at the end of the day it'll be the one that steers far clear of "free" government money.   :flush:

This is precisely the reason why the Big 3 are failing miserably--their products aren't nearly as high-quality as a comparable Japanese car, yet it's obvious that nobody in the government nor the people heading these companies is willing to admit or talk about it.

Quality is pretty comparable to most, really. The biggest problem is they are so out of touch with the American public. GM buying Hummer is the biggest example of this.

I've owned 2 American cars in the last 15 years . . . one crap, one good.  We have a Maxima and a Camry now, both good.

Why they failed:

1.  The only "good" vehicles they made were high end gas guzzling pickups and full sized SUV's, and cool but impractical vehicles like the Corvette and to a lesser extent the Mustang.   The only original interesting sedan was the Chrysler 300 and it gets severe mark downs for quality issues.   Cadillac is finally getting a clue.

2.  Completely lost out in the mid-sized sedan market.  Ford utterly blew it with the 500 and the Taurus, GM foisted that joke the new Impala on the market, and Chrysler as stated had a unique car in the 300 but crap build, and the Charger is interesting but red neck ish.   Ford is finally going to come out with a new Taurus that even they admit is the car they "should"  have built 3 years ago.

GM has too much cross product line duplication . . .if someone doesn't like the GMC Acadia, they're likely not going to like the Chevy Traverse or the Saturn Version of the same car.   GM needs to cut Pontiac, cut Buick and cut Saturn, and have just Chevy for "lower end" cars/trucks/suv's and Cadillac.   Ford needs to cut Mercury.   Chrysler needs to pair down its offerings as well.

IMO the only one of the 3 that has any consistant quality control is Ford . . . Ford may actually make it if they cut Mercury, and get retooled sedans that people want on the road.

I've been saying forever now, FORD is in a strong position, has quality on par with any other brand, and the only problem is the perception of dumbass lazy muricans like all of you.  Buy as much Ford stock as you can afford.  And to top it all off, Ford doesn't even want the governments money.

I'm a big supporter of japanese and korean vehicles, but claiming their quality is better is opcat retarded.  Don't get your hopes up, Ford will be around long after you losers die.

ford makes good cars.  they're also in a hellhole financially.  buying ford stock would be one hell of risk.

Ford was smart and had a 25Billion $ line of credit a year ago when they could get it.

In terms of quality, recent models from Ford, Buick, and Cadilac have been proven to be just as reliable as any other car.

    Gettin' angried up!!!
Previous year's studies have shown Ford narrowing the quality gap with Japanese automakers. This year's report found that Ford is now in a statistical dead-heat with Japan's leading carmakers, according to a source who had reviewed the numbers.

JD Power and Associates ranked Ford even with Honda and Toyota in initial quality as far back as 2007.  Looks like they're making strides, hopefully they'll have enough time to really implement all of their ideas.  Also- Ford sold Jag and Land Rover (to Tata, for 2.3 Billion) earlier this year, the main reason the are still a bit more stable now than GM or Chrysler.

Ford is doing okay with the Fusion, which is actually a Mazda.

I don't really like most of the Saturn lineup, but it would be disastrous for GM to cut it.  That's where most of their innovation has been coming from and it has good brand recognition among younger buyers.

I have a Mazda (made in Hiroshima, most of the cross-badged Fords are made in Mexico) and a Subaru made in Indiana.  Both are extremely high-quality vehicles that should have a working life in excess of 20 years if properly maintained.  It's no wonder GM and Ford invested so heavily in these companies.

you are bit off in your mazda claim.  Ford just got them some money when they needed it.  Now mazda has been keeping for going and has been a little black line on Fords P/L at the end of the year.  Ford has even thought about selling them because of their profitability.  :suicideispainless:

I dont think Ford is that far off from being not junk stock.  When Ford was running the company a few years ago he actually wanted to get green high mpg cars into the fleet.  He also pushed for more quality.

Foreign makes and models have better resale value...

fact

That is directly related to quality.

Look at where all of the basic engine technology is derived from in Mazda's current lineup.  Not to mention their shared platforms derived from Ford.  And they have already sold a portion of their stake in Mazda, awesome input though, if I need some misinformation from 1998 I'll ask you.  Junk stock?  lol, gave yourself away there.

That is directly related to quality.

It's also directly related to perception.  It's been proven repeatedly Ford is on par with all of its peers in regards to quality, it's futile to argue otherwise.

Honda, Toyota four door sedans (which was the auto in my first post).......

more reliable after 100,000 miles than any major American car in its class.....look it up.

Ford is a good automaker. Not saying they put out crap at all.

Oh and..

Currently, analysts estimate the union workers at U.S. automakers make about $3 to $4 per hour more than the non-union U.S. employees of foreign automakers like Toyota and Honda, according to the Center for Automotive Research.

The system is fracked up. I'm all for buying American....but if it isn't worth my dollar...where is the competition?
