I have a question for MM and company.

You all speak about the disparity of 2 black coaches out of 120 coaching positions.

How many black coaches are out there that are qualified to coach at this level?  I'm sure there are quite a few, but are there enough to meet the quota and break this disparity?

It is kind of like the symphony in California that was compelled by affirmative action to meet a quota of black musicians.  The thing is, qualified black musicians did not want to play for a classical symphony.  They wanted to play other kinds of music.

If there is a large number of qualified black coaches out there looking for jobs, then  yes, we have a problem.  But if the reason there aren't more black head coaches is because there aren't enough who are qualified, then quit your whining.

Also, if ESPN feels so sorry for Sylvester Croom and they believe that he is worth a million bucks per year then perhaps they should hire him and pay him that salary. ESPN has more money to spend than Mississippi State does so they should go for it.

Dungy was the first coach to ever have a career winning record at the hellhole that was the Bucs.  He took the team to the playoffs 4 times in his 6 years, after the franchise had only been to the playoffs twice ever in its prior history.  But, sure, Dungy sucks if you say so...

Where do you get the racist crap?  All I hear on ESPN is "Hire more black people!" but I don't hear names.  Now, in the NFL years ago, there was talk of the outrage that guys like Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith weren't getting a look at an HC shot.  They listed qualified coaches who were African-American.  Is ESPN doing that?  No, they're just saying to hire more black people.  Which ones?  Give us a list of qualified candidates, but don't expect schools to go snatch the next under-qualified candidate (like K-State did) just because of his race.

I get sick of being called a racist when my history of involvement (in my teaching and the charities I support) speaks the contrary.  I believe all qualified candidates should be given a look regardless of race.  In fact, I believe all qualified black candidatesshould be head coaches right now.  Who are they?  Have they put their names in the running for jobs?  As I said before, IF SO, then we have a problem.  But if they are not putting their names in the running, why play the race card when they are not hired.
