A Look at Louisville

6'5" 230 lbs Hunter Cantwell will start at QB for Brian Brohm. To take the pressure off of Cantwell the Cards will use a RB rotation of 5'11" 218 lbs Kolby Smith and 6'0" 190 lbs. George Stripling which they were forced to go to after RB Michael Bush got hurt in the Kentucky game. Cantwell is 9-11 for 179 yards passing and both Smith and Stripling are averaging 67 yards/game which equals out to 5.6 and 7.2 yards/carry. Louisville is averaging 256 rushing yards and 307 passing yards for a total of 563 yards/game. Keep in mind that Kentucky and Temple were two of their first three opponents. It'll be a stiff test for the new and improved defense but it's one that I'm looking forward to watching. If one of our three units has to be struggling going into this game I'm just glad that it's not the defense.

I forgot about 6'6" WR Mario Urrutia. He's got 257 yards so far in 2006 and all but 96 came against either Temple and Kentucky but he's averaging 23.4 yards/catch.

The defense is really struggling up front but they've got really good LB's and a really good secondary. The DL had to replace 3 starters. DT Amobi Okoye is the only "veteran" on the DL. LB Nate Harris, the trash talker, is the team's tackle machine. Abe Brown, Preston Smith, Malik Jackson and Lamar Myles add depth to the LB corps. CB William Gay is their cover corner and CB Rod Council was 2nd on the team in tackles last season as a freshmen. Brandon Sharp returns at FS and Jon Russell takes over at SS.

They have the best kicker in the conference in Art Carmody. He's 4-5 for his career in FG's with hit longest being a 51 yarder vs. Temple.

I've heard that their secondary is the weakest aspect of their Defense, and the Line is actually their strongest. Also, why is their kicker the best in the conference? Completion percentage or range or what?

He's 30-36 (83%) for his career in FG's but 7-7 from 40 plus.
