There's a new sheriff in town.
The Band is BACK!

Dear Band,
I have just returned from a long and very incredible meeting with
the following in attendance: Dr. Krause (AD), Dr. Bosco, SGA officers,
Amy Rienz (Alumni Assoc Pres), Foundation representative Mike Smith,
Dr. Mortenson (Dept of Music Chai), Dr. Pursell, and others.
The bottom line is that the present legislation to decrease and
eliminate funding is dead and will be replaced by a bill that continues
our budget at present level while the Ath Dept, Alumni assoc and
Foundation develop methods to replace the SGA funds and even increase
our budget within the next few years. There is also a plan to cover
the costs of new uniforms.
There are many details, etc. that need to be worked out but I cannot
even begin to tell you what a monumental break through this has been.
This has the potential to be the best funding and support that this
band has ever received and will serve as an example for all University
bands to emulate. SGA did us a huge favor by bringing this to
everyone's attention.
I could not be happier.
I will give more specifics when I see you this afternoon.
I want you to know that none of this would have been possible without
the effort YOU made to get the word out. The incredibly overwhelming
response to this from students, faculty, alumni, friends, etc. is far
beyond expectation and imagination.
Pass the word: THE BAND IS BACK! We will be better than ever - in
all ways........

DT

They could save some money by not buying uniforms...they never wear 'em.

Alright, sorry. I thought you were trying to insinuate that tone loc or quiet riot were not worthwhile. This one's on me  :barman:

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I also got to see Jackyl play a free concert outside of Chance. We def could have nixed the band and got Jackyl to take over for 100,000. The chainsaw after touchdowns alone would be worth it.  :ohno:

Part of history:

http://www.jackyl.com/new/bio.htm

A collection of B-sides titled 'Stayin' Alive' appeared on Shimmering Tone Records in 1998 but the biggest highlight of the year was Geffen's release of the best-of collection 'Choice Cuts' and the related promotional events Jackyl did to help promote it. The band earned two Guinness Book of World Records citations and the designation "The Hardest Working Band in Rock 'N' Roll" for performing 100 shows in 50 days as well as 21 shows in 24 hours. Dupree says the most grueling of the two was 21 shows in 24 hours; Jackyl completed that task in Texas, and the shows were all done with full lights and sound. The daytime sets were 45 minutes long whereas the ones done at nighttime were between 90 and 120 minutes long.

I saw Tone Loc in Padre as well.  (Charlie's?  I think that was the name of the giant ass bar.)  Anyway, I pissed next to Tone Loc in the bathroom.  Bad idea.  Ten years later, and I still feel like half a man.

I don't think this was a Carlos and Charlies.  (I've been to the Carlos and Charlies' in Cancun and Cozumel.  Lots of fun.)  I could be wrong, but I'd already been to one in Cancun before I went to Padre, so I think I would have remembered.

Just plain old Charlies.  &@#%ing place was a huge, mostly outside type of thing.  Best part of Padre:  They give you Whataburger in jail.  Not that I would know, it's just what I heard.
