THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD

Macchu Picchu was amazing.  It is currently listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.  We have seen two of the current seven, the other being Chizaniza in Mexico.

The scenery was truly spectacular.  The fact that the people were able to construct something that elaborate in such a remote place is a testimony to what people can really accomplish when they put their minds to it.  If you were to look way up on top of the Flatirons and proclaim "we are going to build a city up there," you would have many doubters.   What is possible lies in your heart, your will, and your determination.  What is realistically possible is determined by the expanse of your mind and thoughts.  Regardless of your political affiliation, it is awesome that in our country it is now realistically possible that a person of color or a female have an opportunity to hold the office of President of the United States.

As we climbed up and around the breathtaking mountains I thought about the seven physical wonders of the world.   Upon further introspection, I thought about the unseen, intangible wonders of the world that allow the physical wonders to exist.  Here are seven of the many unseen wonders of the world:

1. BELIEVING IS SEEING:

When you have a strong vision about who you are, where you are going, and how you are going to get there, ANYTHING is possible.  When you have the strength of will and conviction, you will achieve what you want.  Many will doubt you.  Many cannot commit until they see some proof.  Those who get up and get on in life know that their belief is the only proof needed to see their dreams, hopes, and plans materialize.  Life tries to box us in due to several factors, that’s why role models and mentors are important to planting the seeds of belief and nurturing their growth.

2. PEOPLE ATTRACT WHAT THEY ARE, RATHER THAN WHAT THEY WANT:

When you truly decide to make yourself a vehicle of excellence, when you give yourself up to doing things right, and commit yourself to a values and principle based existence- your life will become magical.  Focus on the process, not the product.  Put your focus on being a winner.  Dr. Jerry Lynch spoke to our team in training camp and had a profound concept.  He asked us if we were going to become national champions.  Of course we replied yes.  Jerry’s answer was, “NO”, you either are, or you aren’t a champion- you never become one.  I thought that was solid advice.

3. GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE:

Givers get.  Be a person more worried about how much value you can add versus how much you will receive.  If your actions are pure and truly from the heart, those intentions will eventually be turned back towards you.  Go out and make a difference in the lives of others!

4. A SAILING SHIP WHICH KNOWS NO PORT FINDS NO WINDS FAVORABLE:

Having grounding philosophies and principles to live by allows us to take on the many storms that blow through our life.  The parameters may change, but when the goals and vision are clear – the response will always lead us in the direction we choose.  If you don’t know where you are going, you are likely to wind up there.

 5. OPTIMAL EXPERIENCE IS SOMETHING WE MAKE HAPPEN

Life is not always fair.  In fact, many times it can be cruel and harsh.  However, we have to plant ourselves firmly in the driver’s seat and determine our own attitude.  While our circumstances are always different, WE are responsible for navigating ourselves through life.  Our joy and our happiness is totally within our control.  While traveling around the globe I am constantly amazed by overflowing joy and happiness of people who live in extremely tough conditions.  Happiness doesn’t come from a bottle, a substance, a salary, or a position.  We decide whether or not we are happy and what our attitude is.

6. TURN YOUR SETBACKS INTO COMEBACKS

Life is always throwing failure and obstacles in our direction.  Using those setbacks as learning tools and fuel for future endeavors is critical to achieving success.  In learning, expanding, and growing - there will always be mistakes and failures.  To never fail is to never extend oneself.  Use the pain as a powerful emotion to rebound and succeed.

7. YOUR STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS WILL ALWAYS BE MET

The bar you set for yourself, your team, your business will always be met.  Have positive expectations.  Have high standards. Continually strive for the best.  See it in your minds eye.  You will get exactly what you are willing to settle for, if you will settle for something, you’re likely to settle for anything!

We open the season this weekend vs. Colorado State.  You will see some pretty tried and true football wonders that determine wins and losses: Turnover Margin, Run Defense, Run Offense, Sack Differential, 3rd Down Efficiency, Special Teams Play, and Red Zone efficiency!
