Scoop: Leach Looking to Bolt

Sources tell Football Rumor Mill that Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach is itching to get out of Lubbock – and might be up for even a lateral move.

The Red Raiders’ coach wanted a contract extension before the season began, but was told it would have to come later. Obviously, with the job he’s done over the past several years, that didn’t leave Leach in high spirits.

Texas Tech is ranked in the top ten and is poised for a tremendous season. This could be the perfect time for him to jump – and he knows it. One thing we know for sure

Talked to a TTech fan during their drubbing of us and he said he was ready to bolt to anyone interested.

lets get something done.  Remember next to KSU, he is a defensive stalwart.

This is his ninth season at Tech. Probably his best team he will ever have and still not talented enough to win the South. Would have been a good hire for UCLA last year. Predict he will be the next coach at Washington.

Leach could have six North Titles by now. It's crazy that he's never been to the Big XII champ game. Even we've beaten OU and Texas in conference play. oh wait...check that on OU.  Not since 1996?

We should throw a pile of cash at Leach, and make him one of the highest paid coaches in the conference, if not the Nation.  He would be a guaranteed home run for us.

1997 was the last time KSU beat OU in conference play . . . ugly game.  Blake played about 4 different QB's and we had a hell of a time adjusting.

Leach would be awesome.  Would love to go watch his practices.  One of my top 3 favorite coaches in the Big 12.

I read somewhere that he makes his O-lineman carry sandbags up and down hills.  He also makes his receivers run through large tracts of sand to help build their power.

It would be awesome to watch his press conferences.

Is there any reason Leach would go to KSU, other than it being easier to win the north?

Why don't we just hire Butch Davis instead, lol.

The North division would likely be attractive to Leach.  However, my nightmare is that Pinkel goes to Washington and Mizzou hires Leach.  We'd be &@#%ed.

crap loads of cash might do it.   How much does Jack Vanier have, and how badly does he want to win?  IDK, just wondering.

At this point, I don't think money will be an issue.

Let's put it this way.  A lot of "old" money is being carroted around to get this program back to the DOD.

Yes and no.  It's up the administration to see the signs.   If they want to hang on to Ron (and I'm all for him staying if he can manage to pull this together), then they need to let Ron know he has the money to hire the best assistants to come in here and turn this program around.   I don't think Ron is a bad X's and O's coach, but it's clear his staff is not the kind of staff he needs to produce results.   Part of his job is to evaluate the performance of his staff to get the right people in the job.  If he can't do it, then we need to find someone who can.   For all the glory we put on Snyder, Bill at least knew how to assemble a good staff and manage them.  It was when he got older that his heart got too big, and our staff wasn't as good as it had been or could have been.

This is why Ron's fracked.  The wallets, apparently, aren't willing to open for him and even if they were, I don't know if he's capable of hiring and/or retaining qualified assistants.  He's just not going to be accepted and I don't think he's going to reach the level of success that will force acceptance.  Ron should be forced to keep Tibs.  Firing Tibs and getting a new DC is worthless at this point.  Just fire Ron and start over.

Venables might be the DC if we get Leach....
Because:
1. Mike Stoops will be out of work and need a job
2. Leach and Venables worked together at OU
3. Venables is getting balsted pretty good by OU fans

Leach HC
Venables DC
Wyatt someplace on staff

Rusty, Leach is the perfect "fit" for KSU.  You know it, I know it, and I'm sure Mike knows it as well.  It's only a matter of time.  Quit being a negative nancy and get on board the pirate ship.
