Halfway through the first quarter, the first two Hawk possessions ended like this:

1.  Bad snap on the punt, punt so short that it was caught by a ku player behind the line of scrimmage and advanced, but not far enough for the first down.

2.  Punter just straight out drops the ball.

NW State got the ball twice at about the 20 yard line, but only got 6 points out of the deal.

Looks like ku might have some special teams work to do.

You can't expect perfection against the 143rd ranked Northwestern State Demons.

because of the special teams, yes.  But Cornish had 25 yds. on his first 3 carries.

Meier had a nice TD pass on the next play.

ku's second score was the result of horrible tackling by NW State on a punt return.  They had Brian Murph retreating and cornered on a punt, even had their hands on him, and didn't make the tackle.

ku's 3rd TD was a punt block recovered for the TD.  So to amend my earlier statement, it looks like ku has some work to do when kicking, but has some playmakers when receiving.

Immediately followed by a fumbled snap by NW State and another TD pass by Kerry Meier on a busted coverage.  So far, this game is the result of more athletes on the ku side and mistakes by NW State.  It's going to be interesting to see this ku team against a real opponent.
