I found a little 22 pistol I wanted to buy and shoot when I go back to my family's farm and when I go to buy it the guy tell me I need a permit to purchase a handgun in Nebraska.  It's $5.  So I have him put it on hold.  Cabela's holds guns for 5 days.  So I go to the sheriff's office and they close at 4.  They are only open from 8:30-4 M-F to get permits.  I work during those hours every single stinking day.  Once I get my permit by mail I'm supposed to take it to the Omaha Police department to register it (Gestapo.)  At which point they'll mail it to the dealer who will deliver the gun to me.  OMFG!  How am I supposed to get that done before my gun goes off of hold.  It's a used gun, and therefore, will not be able to be purchased at that price again.

So What do you want Nebraska?  People to own guns responsibly or buy them off of the street?  Now that I'm a resident I cannot buy a gun in Kansas.  Basically Nebraska and the City of Omaha have taken away my 2nd Amendment Rights.  I will not possibly be able to go during their hours until April.  To do the correct thing you have to go through hoops and then pay for the opportunity to do it.  If the government wants people to register weapons they should make it a more accessible system.  In Kansas it takes less than an hour to buy a gun if your are legally able to do so.  And it's only the responsible citizen who are paying to do things legally.  So instead of being a crime deterrent it's basically a tax.  Can anyone say Jim Crow Laws?  It's on more of a class level than a race one.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Less so if you own your own.  Take the V-tech shooting.  The guy changed clips approximately 8 times.  If someone else has a gun...
And it's a right our founding fathers gave us to repel unjust government.  It's morally wrong and totalitarian for our government to limit that right.

So if the government were to limit free speech or free trade you would just shrug and say that rules are rules?

They aren't stopping you from getting a gun, dumbass.  They have a procedure in place to restrict gun sales and keep things on the up-and-up.  Not their fault that your schedule doesn't work with theirs.

As far as guns being useless, go to the political forum.  We have like 3 threads going on that.

What's your problem?  Their process is unfair and inaccessible to people who work.  What am I supposed to do tell my boss I'm taking a day off to go apply for a permit?  This is not about the usefulness or lack thereof of firearms.  More that the State of Nebraska is limiting access to my right to bear arms.

Yeah rights are a personal problem.  But at least I have free speech.  So with it let me say, "You're an idiot."

would you like the government to change the procedure to fit your working hours?

Government working hours for most public offices should be 5.  I was there at 4:45.  It closed at 4.  So the short answer is yes.  For home defense and just recreational target shooting owning a 22 cal handgun should not be this big of a deal.  But because of faulty policies it is.

Think about it this way.  You are the government.  You want to make a law that ensures only citizens who are legally able to own a gun do.  Do you

a)  make it something no once can do so that buying a gun from a gang member is slightly simpler.

b)  make it a positive thing that people think is worthwhile.

Luckily for you, you don't have to worry about it.  You live in Oklahoma.  Guns can be found in pencil cups at offices.

If you're so worried about having a gun, just take a long lunch break.  It is nobody's responsibility to make sure they are convenient for you.

Or save your money and spend it on something useful that doesn't kill people.

I only have 30 minutes for lunch.  It is not flexible.  The only days I get off are for holidays.  It's on contract.  I'd also need 2 days.  One for the permit and one for the registration.  It also is their responsibility as they are the one imposing restrictions on my rights.

Anyone who makes this argument is a complete and total irrational moron.  So instead of one guy having a gun we get the entire student body shooting guns while more innocent bystanders are accidentally shot from idiot hick students.  And once the police show up who how are they going to tell right off the bat who the bad guy is?  Also i guarantee there would be a lot more Va Tech cases if guns were allowed on campuses.

Untrue.  An innocent person with a conceal and carry license would surrender their weapon when police arrive.  The rest of your argument is just as unfounded as mine if not more.

There may not be more Va Tech like cases but i guarantee you there would be more accidental shootings and students getting into huge trouble with them by threatening other students or theft.  It would cost much more grief in the long run and it's just not worth it.

LOL

Rambo is a movie, not real life.  Retards with guns will kill innocent bystanders/themselves.

I pretty much find it disgusting that crap like this happens, and people think the solution is more guns. I don't get it. Also, I just watched the Sopranos episode when Junior (old guy with alzheimer's) shoots Tony Soprano because he doesn't know better.

Aside from the show being fiction, felons cannot legally own a gun.

Gun violence leads to more gun violence.  Doesn't solve anything.  People that think being violent in retaliation of violence is a good way of solving problems are the same tards who think Iraq was a good idea.

Honestly I'm gonna miss you Mark!!
I love how being able to carry a concealed weapon problem is that kids and crazy hicks are just gonna be running around shooting each other and killing people left and right.  to get a permit for a concealed weapon you have to go through classes have a background search pass a test and qualify. be 21+, pay a min of $150 i believe, not be convicted or placed on diversion at anytime for felony, misdemeanor of domestic violence, be court ordered for drug or alcohol abuse assistance, have a restraining order on you currently in place, be in contempt of child support, etc.... lets just say its not an easy thing to do, you cant just run down to the court house and pick one up on your lunch break cause Jimbo your neighbors dog crap in your garden again and your gonna teach him a lesson.

people who say these things are the ones that think if the drinking age is set back to 18 that it will be a drunkin riot in the streets forever with 18 yr old drunk drivers mowing over pedestrians daily and wrecking there lives... it will be viewed as the law change is the problem. the people who believe this are flat stupid and have blinders on. if you want booze now at any age you can get it, trust me.

I think Iraq was a horrible idea.  But people who think violence as a means of defense isn't a good problem solver, especially when that problem is someone trying to kill you, has obviously never lost a family member to gun violence.

The class costs $150.  The permit is around $350.
