No Bob Huggins, and Nike just laughs at Tim Weiser.

But hey ... I am surprised they didn't thank me personally, I demand a personal thanks!! (right lurkers).

Good deal though ... and in real dollars, not in inflated MSRP dollars like a certain school down river.

Thanks Huggie!!

On some issues, yes ... and please don't delude yourself into thinking that without Bob Huggins being in the same room with Weiser while in talks with Nike, that Nike would've even have considered this deal.

Well, duh.  Did you think Tim Weiser was going to hire Bob Huggins?

What is this 20 questions??

I thought there was a real possibility ... Weiser didn't know the guy at all, Eddie Fogler did all the leg work.

So, wasn't that what Weiser hired Eddie to do?  I don't know Bob Huggins either.

So you work in athletics then??

I don't know what one has to do with other here.

No Huggins, no Nike.  Tim Weiser has zero clout with them and its been proven by the fact that it took the hiring of Bob Huggiins to even get them to consider a deal like this ... and KSU tried before Huggins, no dice.

So you continue with your "chicken or the egg" breakdown, I'll stay with reality.

Oh wait, you're probably one of the PI guys I hear about, who wonders why I wasn't waving the pom-poms when KSU hired Huggins ... you know that was proof that I really wasn't nor never could be happy about anything at KSU.  Geezus, what a bunch of tards ...

A bunch of tards with season tickets.  Who's the tard in this equation?

Oh let's see.  No Huggins, no dice.  Well, let's say we hire huggins and make our selves a cool 12 million dollars, not to mention selling out Bramlage Coliseum.  Yep, Weiser had nothing to do with it.  I'm sure Huggins couldn't get a job somewhere else.  Wonder if Nebraska would have taken him?

Yep, Weiser's an idiot.  In fact, check my next post on this board.

You seem to enjoy spanning the globe with your circular logic.

We're talking about one thing here ... the Nike Deal ... no Huggins, No Nike Deal.

That's it, the Nike Deal ... not how much money KSU will make from basketball now that Huggins is aboard ... I've already discussed that numerous times a long time ago.

So what you just basically said Saul, that no other compotent AD could have hired Bob Huggins at KSU (no, not Max Urick), only Tim Weiser could have??

Okay ... a huge stretch, but okay.

No Eddie Fogler, No Huggins.

Glad that TW had a relationship with the Shocker.

I really don't like the fact that KSU seems to have been taken over by Shockers.

They could have...but they didn't.  I'm willing to wager others tried (see Marshall and USF).

No Weiser, no Eddie Fogler.

By the dax logic, it is a huge stretch to think that Weiser could not have hired Huggins without Fogler.

Oh please ... Huggins wasn't going to go to USF or Marshall when a major conference job was available.

I still don't know how this got off tract.  No Huggins, No Nike Deal.   Great for Weiser for hiring Fogler who got Huggins to listen.

KSU tried and tried with Nike prior to Huggins, they weren't interested.

Again ... Nike Deal ... not the who hired who, who hired who, who got someone to listen.

Agreed!

Any idea when the new uniforms for basketball will be released? I checked out catscloset.com and they haven't updated it with the new Nike items.

Did Missouri hire him?  Case closed.  OK maybe they're not competent, but who's decision was it to hire him.  Weiser's.  Case closed.

Let's hope Prince succeeds because I think Weiser's job will ultimately depend on that hire. Bringing Huggins in was a no-brainer. Props to Weiser for making the move among some criticism, but I seriously doubt he would be the only AD to get Huggins. Honestly, wasn't most of the criticism from pissed off ku fans that know he won't be a pushover for them? The talking heads in college basketball seemed to believe Huggins was a good guy and great coach that deserved to be coaching. I see a few nobodies out there that throw crap at him. Those that know him seem to hold him in high regard. We do know that Prince came out of left field and there weren't many (any?) pounding on his door. That hire will ultimately define Weiser.

No, they got one of the biggest young names in the coaching ranks. With the sh*t that Alden got into with Snyder you knew he wasn't going to go after a guy with some bad stigma hanging over his head.

A Grasshopper is more compotent then Mike Alden.  Seriously ... they just fired Snyder, the board was after his a$$, do you think he hires Huggins in that situation when they're on probation??  As Java said .... they got one of the hottest names in coaching outside of Huggins.

Pluease.

OK, I guess we have now established that Weiser is, at least, competent.

Now would you say that Huggins was in high demand?

It's not a matter of high demand, it's a matter of where the demand is coming from.  If Lon Kruger took the ASU job and UNLV wanted Huggins, you think he'd be in Manhattan, KS right now??

I don't know, would he?  The point is, after analyzing the situation with Huggins, Weiser, and Weiser alone, made the decision to hire Bob Huggins helped convince Huggins that KSU was the place to be, and made the athletic department millions in the process.  KSU, on the other hand, is paying Bob Huggins around $1,000,000/year.  You are totally all wet here, Dax.

A no-brainer?  Cmon...do you remember how many of us thought the Huggins to KSU scenario was a total pipedream?

Give TW credit. He pulled off something really special.

And you are right about the "talking heads," but before Huggs was hired his perception was still pretty bad. Once we hired him everyone was pretty cool with it.

It's quite clear that you're way behind the curve on this Scuba.

I guess you'll have your axe to grind, but I have praised the hiring of Huggins up one side and down the other.  But at that moment in time, KSU of all the schools could pay the most money and gave Huggins a job in a major conference.  No way Alden was going to hire Huggins, no way with the pressure he was under ... and everybody else in the race wasn't a major conference school.   So again, it's not the demand itself, it's from where the demand came from.

This thread was about the Nike deal though.

I give Weiser credit for hiring the guy ... but again, there wasn't a huge amount of competition either.  Timing worked out well for KSU.
