Just my opinion, bros.

he has a familiar offer/interest list.

Just part of RP's long-range plan to fuel the K-State/I-State rivalry (it was in the interview binder).
“My arm gets tired from doing this,” said coach Bill Snyder, waving his arm.

KSU lands Oklahoma TE

By Jeremy Crabtree, Recruiting Editor 4 hours, 22 minutes ago

Kansas State has dipped into another familiar territory for its latest commitment for the class of 2009.

Tight end Andre McDonald, a 6-foot-8, 280-pounder from Choctaw, Okla., committed to the Wildcats last week, but informed Rivals.com of his decision this evening. McDonald picked the Wildcats over an offer from Tulsa and heavy interest from New Mexico, tcu, Iowa State and Oklahoma State.

McDonald is the third Oklahoma prospect to commit to K-State.

“They showed great interest in me, and I felt really comfortable with all the coaches and the players,” McDonald said. “I think I’m a perfect fit for them. I was up there at the camp, and they really ran me through the ropes. That’s where they offered me a scholarship, and they thought I would be a good fit in their program.”

McDonald said he flew under the recruiting radar mainly because he missed a major part of his junior season with an injury. That didn’t stop K-State and Tulsa from offering. He said other schools indicated he would get an offer with more senior film to evaluate.

“I had an injury in the first game and then missed around six games,” he said. “It started out as a deep tissue bruise in my thigh and then calcium deposits formed, so that kept me out. I only had two catches when I came back, but I was mainly used as a blocking tight end.

“But K-State really liked what they saw at camp. I run really well for a big guy. I have soft hands. I can block and I can also catch. I consider myself a versatile player.”

But don’t call him an offensive tackle at this point.

“I’m definitely a tight end,” McDonald said with a chuckle. “I get asked that a lot.”

Then again with that frame and build it’s easy to see why some instantly think he’s a future offensive tackle.

Either way, McDonald said there’s no doubting he’s a Wildcat.

“I was recruited by coach Tim McCarty,” he said. “I absolutely loved him and the way he recruited me. He’s a really good guy. He came down to the school and every time I see him he has a big smile on his face. I’m really excited to get to play for a coach that has so much excitement and energy like that.”

McDonald is excited about his senior season. It starts in two weeks against Putnam City.

“I think this will be a big breakout year for me and for our team,” he said. “We have a new coach, and we’re really excited about the direction we’re going.”

That brow line looks kind of Neanderthal-ish.  STUD.  And I wouldn't throw him in with the o-line just yet, if his vitals hold true he could be damn good.

I think Prince's new genius plan is to recruit only kids that missed most of their Jr season with injury so as to fly under the radar and give us first crack at them.  Kinda like hitting on girls that used to be fat but just got skinny and they don't yet know that they are now hot.  This plan could actually have merit.

And necessary at places like Kansas State.

Good point.  Kansas State simply isn't good enough to recruit talent any other way.

The Jim Wooldridge approach, if you will.

Well at least these kids have been to camp at KSU so they've seen them first hand.  I actually like the way KSU is recruiting this year.  Recruiting highschool kids and size.  Keep getting your skill positions out of JC ( we have access to better athletes there then we do highschool) and bring in big highschool kids and develop them over 5 years.  That along with highschool QB's and I think it's a pretty good formula at KSU.

what's concerning to me is that Ron's just now figuring out that you need to develop and recruit HS kids.  I'm actually starting to believe that this is part of some plan because on the surface, given all that he's said since he was hired, there has to be some underlying plan that we just can't see.....otherwise he's really just a fracking idiot who is grasping at straws and the people that hired him are even greater fracking idiots.  I mean, I realize he said "you don't have to take a step back to get better" (or something to that affect, basically referencing the then Callahan collapse of '04 and '05) so maybe that's what he's trying to do?  Just make it through to year 4/5 by magic tricks and jucos and then hopefully by then he's go his HS players developed and ready to go? idk.

He recruited the JC kids to build some depth this year to hopefully scratch out a bowl game and then set himself up for a big year in 09.  It will be Josh's senior year the entire team will be senior laden and both MU and ku will be in Manhattan with large numbers of new starters.  It may not have been the best thing for the program long term but under the circumstances he was in following last year it probably is the best chance for him to save his job.  He had to bring in some talent on defense and some WR's for Josh to throw the ball too.  If he went the highschool route he easily could have been fired before many of those kids were ever ready to play.  He probably would have gotten canned and the new coach would have reaped the benefits.  The way it is now he's either going to succeed or fail big time and leave the next coach nothing.  As a KSU fan I don't like this but if I was in his shoes I'm not sure I wouldn't do the same thing.

One big season in 09 with wins over ku and MU would give him job security for awhile.   Even if we falter the following year (which is likely if not inevitable) it will buy him time to develop the highschool kids he's recruiting now.  Football coaches want to win sure but more then anything they want to keep their jobs.

This sounds like a plan.  Only one thing.  Haven't you heard?  Freeman's going to be the first pick in the draft after this year.  We'll have to do it with Carson Coffman.

That's kind of an intricate plan requiring an assortment of variables (that he has created) to go his way and basically hoping for failure or quasi-success in year 3 in order to not lose his bell cow to the NFL so he can make a run at it in 2009.  It reminds me of the system Pee Wee Herman used to make breakfast.  All that's missing from Ron's master plan is some dominoes falling that strke a match to a candle that makes a balloon explode which excites the chicken to lay an egg which rolls down a pipe to hit a swinging weight ball that then hits a statue of an elf that tips over, hitting a key on the keyboard of a computer that sends Ron's resume out.

I think he'd be a 4* if not for the livestrong bracelet.  All "motor" guys have one and sometimes up to four livestrong bracelets.

I understand this kid was very impressive at KSU's camp.

He's a solid 2-star impressive. He did dominate 7 on 7 drills, but it's not uncommon for big te-types to do that at K-State's camp.

Even Brad Briggs dominated 7 on 7.

speaking of cankles...not sure what is more impressive about your inexperienced OT...his physique or his 5.8 40 speed(prep combine time)?   :dunno:
