Has anyone ever been to Rome?  I'm thinking about going sometime in the next 20 years or so.  Any info would be much apprec.

awesome place, if you ever get a free week or two in the next 20 years, you should def. go, imo.

one caveat.  the airport is not especially awesome.

I've heard rumors that staying in old monasteries in the countryside rather than a nice hotel in the city can save you a lot of money.  Is this true?  Are there transportation issues with this strategy?  Do you know what I'm talking about?

define "nice".  you can stay at perfectly acceptable places in the center fairly cheap.*

not really.  also, monks are pretty scary, imo.

I'll have to do some more research.  Maybe I could rent a scoot to travel from my monastery to the city center.

The scoot to european person ratio over ther is a staggering 4:1.  They are cheaper than sandwich meat and run twice as good.
