With USC type talent across the board, a national football power is going to lose a few guys here and there.

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2008/aug/18/kicker_hoge_leave_ku_team/

I for one am shocked that this kid didn't feel like the Mark Mangino academic emphasis would be enough to carry him through.

The focus on academics by Coach Mangino has even led to extensive in office tutoring sessions for Juco transfers.

Why should we care again though? He's a kicker and not even a returning starter.

This isn't even news.  When teams like Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida State and Kansas lose a starter, the next guy just steps in.  Usually, he is even better.

It's pretty much the same as when D Padgett, O Wilkes, etc. left the bball team.  If you suck, ku (very elite) doesn't want you.  Go play for a non-power somewhere.

And neither one of those teams has anything to do with attending class or making grades (legitimately).

I appreciate how the Super Elite teams always play the second stringers as starters, you know just to make it fair.  Nebraska always does this as well. It works for replacing seniors too, the younger guy is always athletically superior but the other starts because of experience.    :jerkoff:

Hoge was set to take over in tehe absence of Webb..ku's poor man's version of Martin Grammatica..

he!!, Webb was poor man's version of Jamie Rheem.

with Hoge out, you leave it up to a Butler JC transfer who has very little D-1a experience and a redshirt sophmore with little D-1a experience.

It'll come back to haunt them.

They call it that.  In fact, that school has killed more people than the plague.

Hoge had zero D-1 experience as well.  The transfer from Butler was at least the kicker for the Juco National Champs.  It's not like the kicking game wasn't already a question mark before the season started... now we just have one less option at kicker.

All TDs and 2 point conversion...and with that D, who cares how far kickoffs go, it's 3 and out anyways.

Teams like ku just reload when something like this happens.  The 2nd team guy has a higher upside anyways.

Hoge was never first team.  The kicker from Butler made 53 of 55 XP's while playing for the Juco National Champs.  Our punter will likely handle the kickoffs.  Like I said, kicker was a question mark going into the season.  It's still a question mark.

How hard is this fellas??
