Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

I was like  at whole foods, wish we had one.

Oh to answer your question about extra rare roast beef, Sara Lee makes it as does DiLusso. Don't know about Boar's Head.  Also, what they have in the case at any grocery store is not the only thing they have. Ask if they have what you want, usually they do.

do you have to ask for "extra rare roast beef" ?  yesterday at the deli case i was eyeballing their roast beefs checking for rarity.  wasn't sure if it's a style or if sometimes it just comes rarer then other times.

i grabbed the ORCB last night because i had stage fright and wasn't sure about how to order the extra rare  :runaway:

Whole Foods is like what heaven's grocery stores are all like.  I just walk around and tell myself that this is the only place I will ever shop when I get really, really rich.  I'm always all :lick: but then  :runaway: when I see the prices.

Just ask for the reddest roast beef they have.  If it's not in the case ask to see it.

dunno.  I usually keep mine until it gets the hard "rind" on it. Colby jack seems to keep well.  Cheddar keeps the worst.  Any cheese that is smoked keeps well too (provolone).

If you are concerned you won't eat it quickly ask them to slice it fresh.

they always slice both the cheese and the meat fresh.  none of this pre-sliced crap.  i was just wondering because the sell-by date on the sticker is always like the day they slice it.  but i think cheese lasts a while.

Pre-sliced isn't bad if it moves well.  If it doesn't, then it's not as good.

Some deli meat doesn't even look like it was cut but reformed like some ham in a can.

I hate that.

Grocery stores don't make great fresh bread either.

The   tomatoes aren't like backyard grown.  Picked when green and then gassed.

FYI but most if not all bread that is sold in grocery stores (even in the bakery) is frozen and shipped in, and then thawed and sold.

Yes, alot of deli meat is formed like some sort of ham in a can.  The good stuff isn't though. You can especially tell with roast beef, if it has marbling of fat its the good stuff, if not it is crap.  Turky and chicken, if it's slimy its crap.

Can't help you with the produce bro.  Try to get the stuff locally grown (farmers markets).

about the bread saul- they have a big bread oven at the store, are you saying they're buying frozen dough and dethawing it then cooking it?

Either that or they just get the bread pre-made already.  They generally only make cakes from scratch.

I voted for black forest ham,  but my real passion is for Fanenstiel (sp?) ham.  They don't typically have it ready behind the deli counter.  I go get one from the meat isle then take to the deli counter and have them slice it up.

The ham is very much like black forest, only about buhgillion times better.  Think of it like a naked, coked-up midget riding a jetski across your taste buds.

I hate you.  The deli doesn't make any money off that and it's just a huge waste of our time and a PITA.  Of course I don't work there anymore but it still angers me.  Anyways they usually always have the fanistiel party time ham.  Not sure why anyone would eat that crap though, it's full of weird things.  Plus the fanistiel line is the only line w/ MSG.   ;)

it's not premade, the bread oven is sitting right there behind the counter and they're cranking it out hot.  they do it at most of the hen house markets in kc.

I like most meats better when they are heated. It's like, pepperoni and salami alone are pretty good but pepperoni and salami heated in the sandwich steamer at rockabelly and served to me is

There is a reason they are called cold cuts.  Rock-A-Belly soothes my worries with Old Style and hummus.
