it's really pretty cool, a good phone, samsung makes good quality and you can't beat the price.  i was shocked when i got the email regarding the price.  i saw a dude on the sprint campus with one a while back and it's pretty tight.  i'd say go for it.

one note- if you txt msg a lot you may struggle a bit with the touch screen keyboard, not sure if that's an issue w/ you or not.
but overall, it's really pretty cool and does damn near everything the iphone does.

might be hard to find if you don't act quick, i hear they're selling out in stores quickly.

ah'da'no...just got home with it.  They gave me 30 days to try it and I can take it back if I don't like. Will report back.

Yeah, I'm getting the hang of it.  I have it on a 30 day test run and if I don't like it by then I get my money back and will just get a BB Pearl.  The GPS is really good.  I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 and don't like dragging it around.  Hard to BBS here via the browser though.  TV/Radio is hit and miss and I prolly won't use.  Have 4gb card in it and hold plenty of music.  Even with my bulbous thumbs I rarely miss a key on the qwerty touchpad.

Att service sucks in my area though. most friends with sprint so it keeps mrs dave from going over minutes. am using new phone to type this. it is really an amazing phone and i am getting the hang of the new features.

Yeah, me too.  I just sold my used 1st gen 8gb iPhone on ebay for $395 to some guy in NY.  Had it for 6 months.  So basically, I can upgrade to a 3G for $199, only add 6 months to my contract, and also get my wife a 3G for $199 (she is coming over from Sprint), and it pretty much costs me $5 to do that, and I got to "borrow" an original iPhone for 6 months for free. (although the 3G data plan will cost me $10 more a month. . .)

(With Live Search, you just hold down a button and speak any business or search category, eg. "pizza" or "Dip-n-dots", and it finds hits near your curent GPS location. You can look at reviews, maps, turn-by-turn directions, share the location with another device, or the best part: launch a Sprint Nav session from within the Live Search app to begin realtime GPS navigation.)

Plus, don't let any Apple cultists like SPC try to tell you that the 3G iPhone will be as fast as the Instinct; it won't. 3G on a GSM phone isn't as quick as 3G on a CDMA device.

Yeah, good stuff.  I like the speak thing and the GPS is as good or better than my Garmin.  I may sell the Garmin if Mrs. dave gets a phone with the Sprint GPS stuff as it would be useless to carry around an additional thing.

The units need visible satellites, but often pick up the reflected signal off of obstacles or canopy which will be a degraded X/Y coordinate, but I'm surprised you lose them inside all the reflectables downtown. 

Many models have external antennas that are small (say 1.5" x 1.5") and can be set on the dash or magnetically attached outside that can significantly improve your reception.  Also, most units today have what is called WAAS, check your setting and make certain it is enabled, this is another signal that greatly improves the less expensive unit capability to calculate their location.   I just purchased a bunch of Garmin units and they came default with the WAAS disabled, for some dumbarse reason.

SD - I just looked and the Nuvi uses something they are calling a High-sensitivity receiver, I know nothing about these but it does not appear that they use WAAS.  Might want to check the setting for the High-sensitivity receiver, maybe there is an enable/disable function and its not working for you.  Bummer, I get 10' accuracy with the discontinued GPS V model, or better, with WAAS turned on.

Yeah, mine is extremely accurate but just has a prob. getting a signal around skyscrapers.  They moved a road over a few feet to work on one of the lanes of traffic near our house and it kept telling me I was off course.  The road had only been moved over about the width of two lanes.  Pretty annoying actually but liked that it was that accurate.
