I think we are flawed in our hs recruiting philosophy. There seems to be no method to our coaches madness. Most schools have recruiting bases they draw from. NU gets a lot of TX and CA kids. CU gets a ton of CA and Ohio kids to go with their instate kids. ku is kansas, oklahoma and texas, specifically the dallas metroplex. Mizzou cleans up in state and hits texas hard. This builds pipelines, and generates a buzz and following for a program in certain areas. It appears to me that we have made no effort to do that. We are chasing kids all over the country. teams like USC and ND can do that. We can't. We have no real established recruiting base for hs kids and it is showing in our hs recruiting.

ku and MU have not just started recruiting well the past 2 years. That is when they had success, but when do you think those players were recruited? Most of those kids were brought in 3-5 years ago(daniel, rucker, talib, reesing, mclinton, coffman, temple, collins, etc). There were 4 all americans out of that short list. Every team that has success bringing in hs recruits and developing them has a recruiting base. We don't.

unsustainable.  If you are Kansas State, you need tons of back up plans see: MO, TX, KS.

Prince has sucked regionally.  Cali is a good idea, but you need to build out.  IE:  If you can't even sniff a serious talent near home, it will be harder in Cali because of the added desperation (which kids can sniff) and KSU is a hard sell there anyways when you start competing with Fresno St., Arizona/St etc.

JUCOs under Snyder were genius flier guys and gap fillers: DT, WR, CB, ATH, QB (once), RB.

We WERE NOT filling both our lines every year with JUCOs and must hit impact guys all over the field.

The Juco's have been our base and primarily the Cali JC's.  I don't like the strategy but it seems pretty clear that is what they're trying to do.  Prince also wants to establish Texas but we've struggled to do so.  It's hard to get a recruiting base anywhere when you change coaches so often.  The db coach from Baylor was suppossed to bring Texas but that lasted 2 weeks.  The new guy Rogers is suppossed to have some Texas connections.  Franklin was doing a decent job in Kansas specifically in Wichita but now that he's gone we seem to have nothing there.  Wally was our guy in KC and he's gone now too.  In state our main problem is ku is the flavor of the month right now.  We seem to do ok in Oklahoma with McCarty's contacts but we'll never get anything more then leftovers out of there.  

All that said at the end of the day it's going to come down to how the team does the 2 seasons.  If we win the next two years Prince will be back in favor and kids will come.  If he doesn't then he'll be gone and someone else will get a chance.  I'm not a big Prince fan but I do think we actually have the talent to win on the roster.  It comes down to if he can get the jc kids to mesh with the existing kids and if he can get the team to buy in and play hard for him.

Do u realize how good the defense has to get just to get to the 2006 level?  They have to get a 7ppg better (that's a touchdown to you and me) just to reach that level....with a combination of (a) guys that couldn't get it done last year (or for the past few years) and (b) all new guys that have never played a down of D1 football in their lives. 

I'm hoping that they do get better, but it's doubtful.

I think we need to establish recruiting bases in the following states Ohio Iowa Oklahoma and Louisiana a lot of talent falls under the radar in these places I would love to have recruiting bases in Tx FL and CA but theres to much competition in those places.

I tried to give Coach Prince a chance when he came in.  I admit to being a huge Snyder fan (then again so was the majority of the fan base).  We didn't do that badly on the field his first year, but there were many things already being done internally that I was NOT liking one bit.  It has seemed everything since that first year has snowballed.  Our recruiting is an absolute mess with no form of direction or plan.  The only plan we know when it comes to recruiting is that we will be getting borderline D-1 HS kids and we will be getting JUCO kids namely from Cali.  There are D-III/NAIA schools with a more defined plan then we have and we are freaking D-1!   We use to have a plan.  That plan is being used by the likes of ku, OU, and to an extent MU/NU as well.

I want to win the North before making a bowl in terms of goal priority. Prince is losing ground in the arms race between MU and ku as it currently stands.
