1. JASON ESPOSITO, 3B, SEVENTH ROUND (NO. 205 OVERALL), AMITY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL (CONN.) — Royals director of player development J.J. Picollo said some teams saw Esposito as a second-round pick, but he dropped because of concerns whether they could sign him. Esposito, known as a strong gap hitter, has committed to play at Vanderbilt. However, this seems like a player the Royals will pursue hard.
2. MALCOLM CULVER, RHP, EIGHTH ROUND (NO. 235 OVERALL), PALMDALE HIGH SCHOOL (CALIF.) — Drafted as a pitcher, Culver is a tremendous athlete who could be used at several positions in the field. He also signed a football scholarship to play wide receiver at San Diego State University. His father, George, was a Major League pitcher from 1966-74 and his brother, Tyrone, is a safety for the Green Bay Packers.
3. DERRICK SAITO, LHP, 16TH ROUND (NO. 475 OVERALL), CAL-POLY — A 5-9, 155-pound walk-on engineering student at Cal-Poly, Saito has surprised a lot of scouts. He has a strong arm with a fastball in the low 90s and has a four-pitch arsenal.
4. BEAU BRETT, 1B, 29TH ROUND (NO. 865 OVERALL), JOEL E. FERRIS HIGH SCHOOL (WASH.) — The nephew of Hall of Famer George Brett, Beau could immediately become a Royals fan favorite. He will have to decide whether to sign with the Royals or take a scholarship with USC. Beau is a left-handed hitter with some power.
5. JACOB kuEBLER, 3B, 17TH ROUND (NO. 505 OVERALL), LINCOLN SOUTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL (NEB.) — The cousin of Alex Gordon, kuebler is another player with ties to the Royals organization. Picollo said kuebler has the right set of tools and the physical ability to play third base.
