we major league under achieved in the DOD just thinking about it. It could easily argued that we should've been to 2 more BCS bowls* (some say we got screwed on those deals and we most certainly did, but if we would've taken care of buisness for 5 more minutes we would've been in the National Championship game, and if we could've taken care of colorado we would've won the big 12 in 2002)
so lets review things that we really should have had
1 More National Championship(1998)
1 More Division Championship(2002)
2 More Conference Championships (98 and 02)
2 More BCS Bowls (98 and 2002)
atleast 1 more Fiesta Bowl win (2003)

But, kind of weird to say they underachieved considering how fracked we currently are.

2. Very close losses at ku, A&M, CU
3. We were way better in 2004 than we were last season
4. Fresno and OU were bad games in 2004, otherwise a play or two in any game and we go 9-2, win the North and Coach Snyder likely stays on past 2005
5.The same folks who blast away at the KSU teams of the DOD, are probably happy Coach Snyder and his influence are long gone from the program

Just saying that other than the two clunkers we could have won all the rest. The Tech loss on Saturday night at home and finale against Iowa State were both games we could have won. True, lots of could haves in 2004, but nothing close the the debacle last season.

2004 was underachieving in the sense that we had just come off of a freaking conference championship.  seriously, we finished ahead of baylor in overall standings in '04 which is effectively last place.  From a talent stand point, it was probably a 4-7 team, but the fact that KSU was at that talent position is underachieving (and embarassing, imo).  Not only that, but to win the North up until that time, the worst conference was 6-2, that year 4-4 got you in the CCG.  The "closeness" of the games that year was Wooly-esque.

nah i've been around here for a while, i'm just used to k-state fans trying to kill anything anti snyder related. Don't get me wrong, i loved the snyder years and can't say enough about the turn-around. but at a point we really should've been better

in the big 12 north? yes, in the big 12 south? kinda. it really should've been called the "decade of playing excelent football but underachieving overall, hey by the way weiser have you noticed the basketball program has gone to pot?" but that doesnt sound near as good as the "decade of dominance"

Nah.  During the DOD we almost never had the most talented team in the conference.  Outside of 98 we were always the second, third or fourth best team in the conference and we basically always finished as such.  We underachieved by not winning in 98, but balanced that out by winning in 03.  We pretty much acheived to our talent level.  Well beyond our recruiting stars level...FWIW.

Not saying the best team always won the conference, but during the DOD we were the best team once and won it once.  I think we won the north (or tied for the north) every time we were the best team.
