These were good times.

Quote
The columnist also stated, rather succinctly, "Everybody hates K-State."

Wefald fired back, writing a letter to The Sporting News that also appeared on K-State's athletics Web site.

"Let us deal with your accusations," Wefald wrote. "First, everyone does not hate Kansas State football. If anything, because Americans cheer for the underdog, we might be one of America's favorite football teams. Second, you say our football team is cocky. About the only football player that I know about in the last several years that has been cocky is Michael Bishop."

Those comments, while not necessarily becoming of a university president, probably wouldn't have caused a major stir. The problems arose when Wefald suggested fans actually hate Texas, which had come to symbolize excessive wealth and arrogance. (Wefald, ever the historian, traced this attitude to the period when Texas functioned as an independent republic.)

I didn't remember the Bishop comment mixed in there, the Texas stuff really overshadowed that.

I miss having extremely cocky/arrogant football players who could back it up.

His bit about beating wealthy arrogant Texans was the best.

Word on the street is that people are crapping themselves about the replacement.  Anderson Hall is on butt-pucker alert as everyone tries to act busy and save their job.

is T in trouble?  :ohno:

what wefald said about texas was pretty retarded coming from a university president.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

If I remember we were down 14-9 at halftime, and absolutely destroyed them in the 2nd half. Ended up outscoring them 26-3 in the 2nd half for a 35-17 win.

Great part about that game, we got the momentum right around the end of the 3rd quarter when the UT band traditionally plays their version of the Wabash Cannonball. It was fun to watch 5 -8 thousand KSU fans going absolutely nuts to THEIR band playing  (our) song while their wine and cheese fans looked on in bewilderment. All the while we were absolutely physically kicking their ass again (48-7 year before).

Fun times!!!!

Legend has it that Wefald single-handedly started the rivalry with Texas, that's truly amazing.

One of the biggest rivalries in the game started by one old man with a passion for the game....if nothing else this will be his legacy.
