Its a funny thread.  Both of you have your minds made up.

I never question your passion Rusty, but you're setting yourself up to be extremely pissed.  I'm all for the aim high stuff your talking about it, but Huggins won't set foot in Manhattan Kansas anytime soon.

Personally, I hope we contact Hobbs and Anderson first, then look at guys like McDermott and Lowery if they don't work out.

Don't worry, I know Weiser's a pussy.  Sorry about the language, but he is. He, (along with most K-Staters) thinks small time.

Huggins receiving no interest whatsoever pisses me off just a little already... there won't be some huge shock when we hire that Fordham loser.

Huggins deserves interest, that's all I'm saying.

Is a top tier list of Hobbs, Anderson, Altman (yes, I said it), and McDermott small time?

Then a next tier of guys like Lowrey and Sutton.

Just wondered where you're coming from, outside of Huggins and Nolan.

Compared to Huggins and Richardson?  Yes.

I think Huggins and Nolan present a unique opportunity to hire hall-of-fame caliber coaches.

Anderson and Altman would be a great hires, but a BIG step below the first two.  Ironically, I think Huggins and Nolan would be easier for K-State to land than Anderson and Altman, and I don't see K-State making a serious run at any of the four.  I would still be thrilled with Anderson or Altman.

Hobbs and McDermott will be hot commodities in the offseason, but are a slight step down from from Anderson and Altman, mainly due to the amount of time with sustained success.  They aren't as safe as Anderson or Altman.

Nevertheless, I'm pretty much convinced that I still haven't heard of KSU's next basketball coach yet.

the scariest thing in that whole wichita cat/rusty discussion were the people (more than just wichita cat) holding up weiser's record of hiring bball coaches as a good thing.

yeah, i realize circumstances were different at weiser's previous schools, yada, yada.  but good god, he ran off the only successful coach he ever had working for him and hired a poster child for mediocrity every single time he had a hiring opportunity.  looking at that list is almost enough to drive me back into my woolite bottle.  even if you accept that hiring a winning coach is a less that 50-50 proposition, whiffing on 4 chances out of 4 does not suggest that failure is due random chance.

just for fun, lets assume an AD hiring at random has a 30% chance of hiring a better than average coach.  this would suggest there is a 24% chance that weiser's failure to hire a single decent coach is due to random bad luck.  i think i am going to go back and look for my woolite stash.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

Sad, but true.
