Are there any good cheap drum sets out there that come with cymbals? I'm looking for a really cheap set (under $500) just to dick around on and thought you might have an idea... I've checked out some on Musician's Friend and I'll probably hit up Manhattan Pawn to see what they have, fwiw.
Did you try Wal-mart? LOL
but seriously...cheap and good don't go together when you are talking about drumming. A 'decent' splash cymbal seriously costs 150-250 dollars. One cymbal and I'm talking paiste, not zildjan.
I think you might be able to get a decent five piece set with no cymbals for 500. Something mid-range like Tama or Yamaha drums from Musicians Friend. I would definitely recommend you check out the Musicians Friend clearance store up here in KC if you are coming up anytime soon. They have 6-8 drum kits set up in a room for you to ding around on and get a feel. Most of the stuff in there is 25% off since it is mostly returns from people who found a dig in a case, or some other minor blemish. If you can handle something like this, then you can easily get away with spending less money.
I'd also point out that the whole clearance center has a billion guitars in there. It's pretty awesome to play with a gibson I can't afford.

they also sell some new items--but those are things that are obsolete from 2007.
HTH
