Talent isn't an issue. ku is winning with a bunch of 2 and 3 stars. It's the inability to coach this talent up.

As for the effect on our program, not really any at all, IMO. Miami won the NC a couple years ago and they sunk to mediocrity. Parity is running rampant, so nobody will be able to pull away from anyone.

Look at the facts people.  KSU is in the middle of nowhere, the girls are fat, and there is nothing to do but get high or drunk and dream that you are not in Manhattan.  Then graduate and get the f*ck out of there, only to return and use the place as a urinal a few times a year.

A solid QB can make a big difference in how the rest of the team performs. There is a huge boost in confidence for the whole team when you know your offense can move the ball and not turn it over. You could see it late in the game that the VT D gave up after their offense continually failed.

mizzou winning like they did this year and likely will next year is more troubling for me.  That state has a lot of talent.  They could be really good for a while.

ku will have to prove they can sustain it with the tougher south schedule, and get by mizzou.

Little to  no effect on us just like us winning the big 12 in 03 had little to no effect on them and their direction.   You can say it will effect recruiting and it may on some kids but consider that most of the kids starting for ku and MU now were recruited around the time we won our big 12 title.  A lot of the kids we didn't even offer and some kids they still beat  us head to head on even though we'd beaten both for more then 10 years straight.

Both of them were coming off of multiple loosing seasons yet they were still landing players that were good enough to get them in the top 10.  It's all about what we do and little to do with what they do.  Also it's harder to stay on top for an extended period of time then it is to get there.  Just about every BCS program out there has had a real good year when everything comes together but most of the times they fall back down after a year or maybe two.   Hell even teams like Northwestern, Stanford, Wake Forest etc have had good years and even won conference championships.

Maybe this is just me, but I think our 7 losses this year had a greater impact than any bowl win mu or ku had.  What directly affects ksu is what ksu does, to think otherwise falls into the "ku would win the NCAA tourney if the Big 12 was tougher" category. 

Now, does the success of mu or ku make it more difficult to recruit, probably.  But mu and ku were getting their current players when KSU was at it's pinacle (or at least hadn't completely fallen off the map), and NU and CU were good.

Its really hard to say.  For example, 4 years ago on January 4th no K-State fan would've thought that the current situation would exist.  Its not like we parlayed that season into bypassing average ku and MU teams (both made bowl appearances).  Things can turn, and as we've seen they can turn pretty quickly.

Granted, MU and ku's unprecedented success doesn't make it easier, but its going to be all about what KSU does with their current situation and whether or not Prince can get things fixed and build a program (with hopefully a little patience) like we've seen done in Columbia and Lawrence.  Frankly, I have no idea where will be in 4 or 5 years b/c its kind of hard to guage where we are going right now.  However, I don't think that means its time to gut the thing and start over.  Right now all we can do as KSU fans (unless we have several hundred grand lying around collecting dust) is wait and see what happens.  Sucks as fans, but that is where we are at.

One MAJOR difference.  Illinois plays in a conference that acts in the best interest of its member institutions regardless of who those institutions are.  We play in a conference that acts on behalf of the highest bidder.

And they may go back to a 500 or below team next year.  It's the way of college football these days.  ku and MU should be good again next year both are junior dominated teams.  That said each team and each year are different you don't know what is going to happen there are so many variables.  One or two key injuries can ruin a season and one or two lucky breaks can totally make a season.

Well said.  Things turn.  ku's stars all season are not recruiting star guys.  They were well coached and fit the system well.

2003 is a perfect example.  If Ell doesnt go down with an injury do we lose those three games at the beginning of the year?
