I still remember my 5th grade year in the G&T.  One of our cool things of the year was going to be to watch the space shuttle take off.  We were all (the smart kids, not the stupid normal ones) in the library watching it live.

Then, boom, the Challenger explodes.  It was one of the coolest classes ever. Didn't want to be an astronaut so much after that day.

It's time for someone to start one of those "Where my Mensa people at?" threads in the Ape Room.

That's a fun story, CID.  I was playing Oregon Trail on the Apple II (3rd grade) when we found out about the Challenger Exploding, but I was still a stupid kid when that happened.  They didn't "discover" that I was "smart" until 5th grade.  I still can't hardly do multiplication without a calculator.  Fortunately I got to ride a short bus to another school to pow wow with the other smarties.  I hardly remember the activities we did, aside from looking at stock quotes in the paper.

Gifted is only cool in elementary school. It sucks from junior high on up. We did cool crap like dissecting a fetal pig, taking apart a tv to see how it works and building bridges out of tooth picks.

I saw my transcript in high school on my counselors desk.  It had every school photo I'd taken from 1st grade to 11th grade, a bunch of crap, grades, etc... and said my IQ was 143.  I have no idea when it was taken or who did the test.  Someone must have done it in grade school..

Unfortunately... my 143 IQ got me kicked out of college in 3 semesters, landed me a job as a bartender at a strip joint, and I ended up in sales.

At 32, with my 143 IQ, I am addicted to fist person shooters on xbox 360, probably drink and drive twice a week, and masturbate more than what would be considered normal.
