Bloody brains are kind of weird:

I vaguely recall the Brickskeller serving some odd concoction of pale ale, champagne, and Chambord.  And of course a good stout is just that much better with a shot of Kahlua tossed in.  If you feel like coming by my place you can try a batch of homemade absinthe, quadruple the wormwood for that jackhammer-like buzz right after the first shot ... if you can manage to choke that much down.   :yuck: :ohno:

Oban, not a finer single malt made.  If you haven't had it, put it on your X-mas list.  The price on the 14yr has almost doubled in the past 5yrs.  Moved it right on out of my price range. :'(

Come to think of it there's probably nothing stranger than Captain Dick's Sourtoe:

Quote
Established in 1973, the Sourtoe Cocktail has become a Dawson City tradition. The drinker's lips must touch the toe. " You can drink it fast, you can drink it slow-- But the lips have gotta touch the toe."  The Sourtoes are actual human toes that have been dehydrated and preserved in salt. Swallowing one is not suggested.

The Yukon is probably the only place in North America far enough from health inspectors to allow that to actually go on.

catINdallas,

Thanks for the recommendation !  I haven't tried Oban.  My current selection includes:

Aberlour  15 (year)
Aberfeldy 21
Bunnahabhain 12
Clynelish 14
Cragganmore 12
Dalmore 12
Dalwhinnie 15
Glenfarclas 12
Glenlivit 12
Glenlivit (actually Nadurra) 18
Glenlivit 21
Glenmorangie 10
Knockando 13
Lagavulin 16
Laphroaig 10
Laphroaig 30
Longmorn 15
Macallan 15
Singleton 12 (I think)
Talisker 18

I'm especially fond of Lagavulin and Laphroaig (haven't tried the 30 year yet.) and the Glenlivits.  Although the worst single malt I've tried was great !

:lick: :lick: :lick: :lick:
I don't have any Cardhu anymore, but it was a great as well...

QFT, brother.  A friend mixed a simple Bloody Mary for me one night but garnished it with a dill pickle spear and it was unbelievable.  There's something about the taste of pickle juice that seems to improve certain drinks.      :lick:

catINdallas,

I take it that blue is good and purple is very good and Oban is great ?

I will say that many folks speak very highly of Macallan.  I think it is good, but I prefer others...

And The Dalmore is ok.  Again I prefer others.

As far as blends are concerned, I like Dewars and Pinch (sometimes called Dimple).  Not so found of Chivas, I think it is over-rated.  However, Chivas Royal Salute (21 year) is really good stuff.

I haven't tried JWBlack, at least that I know of...

Regular Cutty Sark is a poor excuse for a blended scotch and if it is the first that one that people drink, no wonder they don't like scotch...  :yuck:

Yes, Oban=  !

You know that earthy smell that you brag about on every post, plenty of it in Oban.  Call me silly but I like to eat pecans while I sip my Oban, each adds to the other.  On occasion, I've even soaked some pecans in a tumbler and sacked 'em up to enjoy later.

Oh crap, Roscoe just came on iTunes, gotta go.

Made in Kansas!

Woodford Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey over ice is pretty good.   Don't have any weird drinks I can think of, but it appears I'll have to try the tequila and pickle juice, though I cannot imagine it tasting good.

To import?  No.  To sell?  No.  To distill?  No.  To possess or use?  I'm honestly not sure.   The history of the "ban" is kind of odd in that I don't believe absinthe ever made it onto any of the banned substances schedules (you'll want to double-check that for yourself though) but the Dept. of Agriculture did ban its importation and I believe another agency (ATF?) banned its distillation & sale.

"Real Cobra Snake whiskey is infused with a real farm raised Cobra snake, ginseng roots and seed pods. The whiskey is left for several months, which then imparts a unique flavour into the whiskey, it is quite an acquired taste. The story is that this is used in SE Asia as a very strong Aphrodisiac; and it also has many medical uses, such as the treatment of back and muscle pain."

Pretty sure the US stuff doesn't have the hallucinogenic (wormwood or whatever).
“My arm gets tired from doing this,” said coach Bill Snyder, waving his arm.
