And, why?

I switched my DirecTV "installation address" to a OP, KS address so I could watch FSMW in Dallas and *might* want to watch KC news from time to time.

Who's the best &/or worst?

The best I've found in terms of news and weather is NBC (it's channel 13 on Time warner).  Best weather by far imo, and news seems pretty okay.  The worst imo are Fox News 4 and CBS.

This is what I watch-
http://www.nbcactionnews.com/Default.aspx

By the way, I had the Direct TV guy at my place today and he wanted to drill through the walls and crap.  I said no dude, and cancelled the installation.  I guess he was too lazy to use the existing coax or something.  I'm pretty mad because I really wanted Direct TV.  What a douche.  Thoughts?

I figured he could use my existing coax but not sure wtf he was thinking.

my rankings.

1 KSHB-TV 41 (NBC) not as annoying as others.

fox 4 sucks-low budget, lame
kctv5 sucks-always has to be first for everything. excessive weather updates for lame crap.
channel 9 sucks-part of nationwide station that runs it all the same. old boring anchors. busby and dawson kill it.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
41 for sports because of Jack Harry.

He's a stud.

Channel 9 probably has the best overall newscast.

You shoulda just let him drill, imo.  DirecTV is so far superior to local cable, it's unreal.

I let them do the install just as they wished a little over a year ago and had to have some drilling as the locale of my HUGE screen TV was not anywhere close to the nearest cable outlet.

With all that said, I have no earthly idea why they couldn't just use existing coax hookups if they so chose to.

Thanks.

I figure, from time to time, that my curiosty as to the goings on in KC will be overwhelming and I don't wanna waste time figuring out what's what.

Harry's Sunday night rants are especially worth watching.  He has an extended segment where he doesn't pull any punches with anyone.  Pretty refreshing, really.

He has a show every night at 7:00 on channel 38 that is pretty good from time to time.

I don't want some jackleg a-hole drilling into my friggin' stucco house.  I sent the sob packing.
I really wanted DTV but screw that crap.  Gonna check out Uverse I guess - hope those POS's don't want to get wacky with the set up otherwise i'm stuck with crapola cable and the limited hd channels.

Jack Harry's an idiot imo.

"Regular" coaxial cable (the kind that crappy cable TV uses) is something called RJ6 but the type of cable you need for DirecTV and other satellite providers is called RJ45.  Maybe someone with technical nerd skills can add to this thread and explain what the hell the difference is.  I don't think the RJ6 type of cable is capable of carrying the DirecTV signal.

When I had DirecTV installed at my house the installer was pretty cool and found a way to run the new cables down into my basement through a second dryer vent that wasn't in use and up through a tiny hole in my living room floor.  Call them back and tell them you want someone who can run that new cable with the least amount of intrusions to your house.

This is correct.  You need RJ6, not the old crappity crap.  I rewired all my rooms with rj6 before they came over.  I ran them all to the utility room by the heater.  This way, they punch one hole into the utility room from the outside (they have to bring 4 cables in if you are going HD) and across the room to the collection.  Now I just have to disconnect and reconnect any room I want.  [you have a max of 4 boxes on one satellite]

directv for the win bitches.

I've always watched channel 9.  But sports suck with Dawson.
