Abana was very raw.

It should take 2-3 years for a HS guy to be physically ready to compete.  You hardly ever see freshman dlinemen or even sophomores compete at a high level, 22-23 year old offensive linemen are too physical, plus most dline recruite are 230-240lbs coming out of hs.


Juco guys should be able to contribute their first year, if they are not then you have to question evaluation.

depends on the player.  A few true frosh can come in right away and make an impact but that is rare.  A little more common for redshirt freshman to make an impact but still not the norm.  I think by their third season (redshirt sophomore) a highschool recruit in either line should be ready to play at a pretty high level. 

Some JC kids can come in right away and tear it up.  Others take a year before they come into their own.  Depends a lot on the player and on the JC program they come from.   If a kid comes from a good program with good coaching and good strength training etc then they should be able to help right away.  My impression is the Kansas and Texas JC's have better coaching and are better programs in general then Cally.  Cally JC's have talented players but they tend to be more raw and less ready to contribute.  This staff seems to do a better job in the Cali jc's then they do Kansas and Texas.

JUCO DT's seem to need at least a year in the system before they take off. That's been our experience.

Having no defensive line this year was what killed us and started the chain of events that sent us spiraling out of control. Our new DT's from JUCO ranks are just now showing signs of life and the year is almost over.
