Snyder left this team with minimal talent.  The sad thing is his greatest player left is a senior and will go out a loser.

Combine the lack of talent Snyder left Prince with the multiple failures from the juco ranks and this team is in trouble next season and beyond.

I don't see how anyone can look at this team and think it has a chance to be better next season.  Our entire offense revolves around Jordy.  When he is out, our offense struggles.  Occasionally James Johnson makes a play and we lose him too.

The offensive line needs to be completely overhauled.  If we had young guys on the heels of our current starters, I would be at least possibly encouraged.  Unfortunately, Aufner, Mayfield, Freeze, Kirk, and Drinkgern are not pushing our guys.

On defense, the awful D line that can't stop anyone loses all its starters so essentially we are downgrading next year from bad to worse.

Our secondary has 2 decent safties but our corner situation looks bleak.

Thus, how long is long enough?  Next year doesn't set up well for us.  It is likely we could go 2 years in a row with no bowl game.  Does Prince get 4 years/Josh Freeman's career to be judged on before he is fired?

ku is building new facilities and has tons of momentum.  Missouri is on a roll.  Nebraska is going to be starting over but even with a terrible coach they destroyed us.  ISU seems to be finally making forward progress under Chizik.  I don't know what to make of Hawkins yet.  KSU football isn't just in the midst of a few bad games.  It really is at a crossroads that could be pivotal for the next 5 or more years.

maybe I was a Kool Aid drinker before I don't know.  Last week was a crappy peformance but it was the first really bad peformance of the season.  People don't like to admit it but the losses prior to last week were close games where the better team won the game in the end.  So I wasn't going to go postal after the first truely bad game of the season because anyone can have a bad game.  But in light of what happened today coupled with what happened last week I think it's time to hit the panic button.  This team and program are not going in the right direction.

Prince probably has 2 more years to get this thing straightened out.  Can he do it?  For the first time I have serious doubts that he can.  The key thing is that the players are still on board with him because if they aren't it's over.  I think changes need to be made on defense but at the same time there is something to be said for continuity you can't keep changing schemes every year and ever expect to be any good.

Good post and, unfortunately, so true. A look down our roster shows a team going nowhere but further down. A  handful of 2008 recruits, even if they have talent, are not going to help a team with zero depth and marginal starting talent. A look at last years class doesn't help either. Open your eyes Purple Nation. We're in for a bad ride. :scared:

Will there be a change after this season?

He is a rookie coach which was a risky hire.

    Skate on Sister School
We were outmanned by a team that has been outmanned by every team they played this year.  I don't know if it was coaching or players and frankly, I don't care.  We need to decide if we are happy with 1 or 2 big wins a year and finishing 3rd in the north or if we are going to be a player.  I'm sick about these past 2 weeks.  Do we have the admin/coaches/players to change this?

I'm afraid of the answer to that question.

I love this school with all my heart but this is as bad as I have felt in a loooooooooooooong time.

LimestoneOutcropping,
You kind of described the Wooly era.  That sucker was given far too long.

He has at least one more year, almost positive he has two left.
He should get at least five years total unless it's blatantly obvious he's going nowhere but down(ala Terry Allen style.)  Fans of teams who are used to great success have no patience and usually have unfair expectations.

There are a lot of examples.  Nebraska with Solich.  Despite getting them to the national championship in 2001 and fielding a ten win team in 2003, he was fired.  Alabama with pretty much every coach after Bryant.  In basketball, Kentucky with Tubby, who never missed the NCAA tournament and won a title, but because he hadn't recently was forced out.

There were people that wanted Snyder fired after a loss to UNLV that cost us a bowl game.

If this year has taught football fans in general anything, it's the continuity breeds success.  Mangino and Pinkel, two coaches who have mired in mediocrity their entire careers as HC's, coaches who were never expected to get over the hump, and have been considered mildly 'on the hot seat' for 1-2 years, are suddenly wielding top 6 teams.  On the flip side, programs who jumped on their kneejerk reaction like Alabama(lost to Miss St today) Nebraska(breaking a five game losing streak despite having arguably the 2nd most talent in the conference), and Kentucky in basketball (lost horribly at home to a directional school noone had ever heard of) are seeing why it's important to bite your lip and stick it out.  You almost always have to take a step backwards before you can take a step forwards when you have a new coach.

It's a matter of riding through the rough times and giving them time to learn and develop their own program, which takes years to do.  And in the meantime, teams around you continue to fire and hire coaches based on one or two bad years, constantly knocking them back even farther and farther.

I'm not suggesting that a school shouldn't fire coaches.  If it's blatantly obvious you're only getting worse and worse after 3-4 years, it's time.(Like Terry Allen with ku.)  If you've given a coach several years and no improvement is made, it's probably time to move on.  (Like Fran with A&M.)  But buttkickings happen, especially with new coaches.  Losing records happen, especially with new coaches.

We just have to stick it out, wait, and see what happens.  It's not now, or even next year, that we'll see if Prince is the right guy for the job.  It's later down the road.  We just have to sit back and enjoy the ride..Even if it means biting our lip a few times.
