I think Tibs is a good coach(especially on ST.)  And I know our personell isn't where it needs to be..but..

We really need a VET d-coordinator.  No more young and exciting, fast and aggressive.   Give me strong and reliable, at least in the front 7.  Right now I don't think there's enough emphasis put on stopping the run or recruiting big bodies for the D-line.  It seems like Tibs/Prince are more interested in smaller/faster pass rushers than bigger/stronger run stoppers.

We'll never had a good D if we keep switching DC's and systems every year.  Tibesar is young and he's learning but I think we need to stick with him.  He's a bright guy  you have to give him time get his kind of players and teach his sytem to them.

You're probably right.  My meltdowns aren't very good.

Still, I don't feel good about our d-line/linebacker recruiting.  Blake Slaughter is the only D-recruit I feel good about.

ISU 3rd and 9, we rush 3 and drop 8 and they run a screen pass.  Good call by the D. Coordinator.

They gain 11 yards.  Our players blow.

If its any solace (which to me its really not)...
The colts were the first team in the NFL to really try out the small fast guys all over the place (lbs, dl). It took them a while to get the full compliment of the types of players they had to have to run that style of D. Once they did, they have a very good D, ranked in the top 5 in the NFL.

I hate the 3-4.  We don't have the horses to run it well.  It depends on a stud nose tackle.  Cline isn't the stud we need and now he's hurt.  We can't stop the run and we're somewhere between pathetic and horrid on 3rd-4th downs.  I don't have enough adjectives to describe how bad I hate our defense.

All in all, we're one of the most mediocre teams in america that actually does show some promise occasionally.  They're hard to figure from one week to another.

I've been saying this since well before the season began.  We just don't have legit Big XII talent at every position.  This team has been a pleasant surprise in that they're really playing above their talent level but if RP can't sell some better recruits on KSU there'll be lean years ahead.

In 2 years, on defense?  No.  Except Rob Jackson.  Maybe Josh Moore if he quits getting tutored.  Roland is marginal at best.  Houlik is getting exposed every week.  Chandler misses as many tackles as Watts.  Manu and Balkom are average at best.  Abana has shown no signs of improvement.  LOL at Smoke. 

Lamark should really play defense.

Yes his recruiting looks solid for B12 play...if you want a bunch of small corners and tweener LB/DE's, with a smattering of undersized - but surprisingly athletic - O linemen (this Garcia kid notwithstanding)...

Rob J = not suited for the 3-4
Patterson = lost and timid...but man is he fast 
Houlik = ST player only unless he grows 4 inches this offeseason
Chandler = typical JUCO player
Manu = might still have mono (?)
Watts = this chump must still be hurt, refuse to beleive he's fallen that far that fast

I have to believe that Tibesar is good - he had ridiculous success at NDU at DC... I just think he needs players.

How many good programs have four DC's in four years?
Stability on the staff has got to happen for this program to get it's swagger back.
Campbell is the biggest (productivity) casuality of the switch to 3-4. Otherwise we are about like we have been since 2004.

It's going to take a year or two more before we see the full capacity of the 3-4. The 3-4 has a much greater ability to out scheme offenses than the 4-3, especially in college (confusing O-lines and QBs). Also, look at recruiting, how often can you even find "stud" d-linemen to go after? They aren't many. The 3-4 reduces your dependency on linemen and allows you to recruit more athletes who can be good LBs. The other angle for recruiting is the NFL prep you get running the 3-4. We just need to get one player into the NFL from the D in the next few years, then recruits will start buying how we can get them ready for Sundays.

The guys who are returning next year need to get healthy (big issue right now, everyone is banged up in some way) and watch film 24 hours a day. It takes a full season and an offseason following to get a new scheme ingrained.

Campbell had to switch to LB, he is not big enough to play w/ his hand on the ground every play in the NFL, he really needed time at LB for his future...let's hope he continues to work hard b/c if he does he will make his way in the NFL.
