Would Prince bailing after 2 years be more painful than Huggy jetting after 1?

I think it would.  Our football program would be eff'ed.

    I'm with Coco.
Honestly, if Prince left and went to Michigan, I'd still like for him to do well. If he left and went to OU or elsewhere in the Big XII, I'd be extremely pissed. Esp. if he wins a nat. title in his second year.

Either way, if he left, I'd want Jim Leavitt and nobody else.

Some of this is comical:

Nebraska?

If for some reason Bob Stoops opts to leave Oklahoma for the NFL, I hear the Sooners would look at Kansas' Mark Mangino. He was the offensive coordinator for the Sooners' national title team in 2000. While Stoops' leaving is a long shot, Mangino could emerge as a guy at Arkansas.

I heard the word around the Texas A&M offices earlier this week was Dennis Franchione soon would be out the door, and defensive coordinator Gary Darnell would finish the season as interim head coach.

    The "other" KSU
NO WAY!!! He has to prove a whole lot more - QBJF is his crown jewel and he is going to shine under Prince in the next two years. Let's say the D is operating at about 65% of the KSU D of old, when the D gets to about 85% in concert with QBJF, LaMark Brown etc - we will dominate once again. Weiser will shoot 7 figures at Prince - he signs a long-term deal. Legacy cemented, chapter over, book written.

IMHO

Why would Ron or Bret leave where they are now, assuming KSU and Wisky will pony up the cash?....They won't. Michigan, Arkansas  and Nub . Michigan is the only one of those I would consider a step up from either KSU or Wisc.

Tubberville to aTm is , and so is Mangina to Arkansas. ku has a much better chance of remaining significant for the foreseeable future in the Big12 north than Arkansas does in the SEC west.

With Prince and Bielema, its as funny as all the rumors we've heard of since 2001 about Stoops leaving OU.

Prince said that he wants to be the Pap Joe of KSU so, I don't think he will be going anywhere.

I guess the real question is would Prince leave Freeman hanging like Huggins did to Walker?  I can't see him leaving that talent at QB before he graduates after the relationship, etc. that they built starting with him going in to his living room in Dec. '05 and stealing him from Nub.  By the time Freeman graduates, I would be really nervous even if we have Prince locked up with a seven figure long term deal by then.  And Prince is no Huggins, so I hope.

i don't put prince and huggins in the same category as for type of men they are.  i cannot see prince leaving anytime soon...unless they nfl comes calling in the next year or two...even then, i'd have to reevaluate the situation.

Prince said he wanted to be the Joe Pa (as in Joe Paterno, coach at Penn State for the past 58 years) of the Midwest.

I believe there's virtually no chance Prince leaves to another D-I program unless he feels that he doesn't have the support of the AD.  All the coaches in the dept love him, the AD loves him, and he knows he wasn't on anybody's "list" (except for Al Groh's list) before Timmy & The Man went to see him.  Prince has got a set of principles that he lives by that is hard for most of us to comprehend.  Having said that, I also think he is the type of guy that wants to take his skill/craft to the highest possible level - which is the NFL.  I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see him leave after 6-7 years if an NFL HC job came open and then only if he had won at least one championship and probably more.  He's staked a large part of his career on goals of competing & winning championships so I don't think he'd abandon his principles for that if he hadn't accomplished his goals.

He's a great coach and the sooner we all start to appreciate that, the better.

The sooner he starts to post significantly better than .500 records, the sooner I'll appreciate his "greatness."  He is 7-6 in conference play, for crissakes.

I think we're all waiting for that, but I think it's pretty remarkable how many of those games were played w/ a true freshman at qb.  Prince isn't out there throwing the ball and I don't care how many stars you have behind your name.  You don't play the qb position as a true freshman in a BCS conference and start winning 75% of your games.  That's just not the way it works at this level.

He made the right decision, (which i disagreed with at the time) of starting Freeman and maybe, maybe sacrificing a couple of wins in order to improve and if you look at the offensive output we have improved. Hang in there - improvement is still happening.  When it stops, that's when you need to worry.

Freeman has a RS year left. He could take him with him.

I think the Huggins debacle has put some on edge, including myself.  Otherwise, this isn't an issue.  I don't think Prince is a scumbag like Huggins but you never know.  I want to see Prince stay long enough to where we can see what his system produces during a 6+ year stretch.  Anyway, I just put it out there to keep tabs on his stock in the coaching world.  It's not like this is the first instance we've seen him being mentioned for higher profile jobs.

When he stepped to the podium after being introduced as the head football coach, it didn’t take long for the native Kansan to reveal a long-held affinity for both the University and its football program.

“I’ve been preparing for this opportunity my whole life,” were among the very first words uttered by Prince as the Wildcats’ new head coach. You see, for Prince, serving as K-State’s head football coach is truly a dream come true.

Raised in Junction City, Kan., which is located just 20 miles west of Manhattan, Prince literally grew up in the shadow of Kansas State University. And as far back as he can remember, at least to the age of three or four according to his best recollection, he had dreamt of one day leading the Wildcats.

“I was one of those kids you all saw running around KSU Stadium and Ahearn Field House,” Prince recalls. “This University has always been a part of me.

It's kind of hard to see him jumping ship after coaching at his dream job for two years.  What, now that he's reached his dream does he go chase something he hasn't worked towards since he was 3? :dancin:  I think he's here for the long haul, jmo. :hope:
