through 5 games.

Impressive given some of the teams in the conference like Tech, OSU, Mizzou, OU, etc.

40.4 ppg...

LOL at the lead in punt return avg.  By over 6 yards per going into yesterday...Jordy and Deon decided to ^^^ that lead.

I wish we had a DODesque defense to go with it or we could be a great team.

qft, our defense hasn't been absolutely horrible, but seriously we are like 3 or 4 plays from being undefeated.  we're a pretty good team when we pull our head out of our asses.  i just hope we can take care of a very mediocre Iowa State team that if you don't take your A game into Ames, it's very eminent you will lose, no matter what type of season they're having.

    I'm with Coco.
My biggest issue with this team is we only play up to par with our opposing team. At Auburn, we're a bunch of tough SOB's. With ku, it seems like we TRY to keep it close. Same with the first half of Baylor.

Or it could be that our defense has worn down as the season went on?  I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong I just think that depending upon what we think the reason is, the numbers tend to correlate with our expectation.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

This is true.  Plus, there is now established film tendencies of the D.  Good coaches game plan around those tendencies/weaknesses and have taken full advantage.

    Fear the Brick
Compared to last year:

Through first 5 conf games -
        O             D
'06:   17.8        23.2
'07:   40.4        25.0

Against same 5 teams last year (BU, OSU, UT, ku, CU)-
        O           D
'06:  26.6       29.2
'07:  40.4       25.0

In short, our offense has made strides our defense has stayed at about the same suckage.  Thanks Tibs.

Yeah, I wouldn't have guessed. And yet, every game, the team seems to put up points. I'm not there yet, where I expect the Cats to score on every possession, but I'm getting there.
The defense doesn't surprise me either. New coordinator (though Tibs was on the staff last year), new scheme add injuries and some pre-season personnel changes and that's probably where the "D" should be.
Turnover-wise, the defense is doing better, or it seems like it. If the coaches can continue to recruit the speed and quickness and smarts they want in a player, the defense should start making strides next year, even with the change in South foes.

Going through that site and re-reading the 3rd down conversion table:

10.Kansas State........  5    27   77  35.1%

Would think KSU would be better in that avenue.  But yet still manage 40 ppg.  So maybe it's a useless stat.

For whatever it's worth, the offense is actually scoring only 33.4 a game.  A full touchdown per game has come from special teams and defense.  Without looking, I'm pretty sure that 7.0 would lead the conference in that category as well.

true...but the other teams' totals are using their d touchdowns too. We just happen to have more of them. Still, the offense has been steadily improving as Freeman gets more and more experience and confidence. If we could just get a defense that could hold when it absolutly has to we'd be where ku is right now, or maybe only one loss.....and with a much tougher schedule.

ST return game is an extension of the offense if you want to think of it that way.

Hi, not the point.  The point: not only is 33.4 still pretty good, 7.0 from the not-offense is outstanding.

All you need to know about K-States defense...

We are 0-3 when allowing the team more the 21 points and 5-0 when holding them to 21 or less.

So when we don't give up a lot of points we win and when we give up a lot of points we lose?

The pattern I think is this..

When KSU reaches 30 points first, we are like 95-2 (or some ungodly figure.)

When the other team reaches 30 points first, we're like 0-20 (another ungodly figure)

The key here is to score early, often, and throughout the entire game to reach 30 points before they do and when all else fails,  just put more points on the board.. or just lose.

God, that was freakin incredibly high FBIQ comments there I sound like a god damn ku fan..  I'm going to bed.

Solid.  I wonder if teams like Hawaii T-Tech (golden days, not this year) and Louisville tend to disprove this theory?
