Anyone experience this insanity?  I get it all the time.  I get the most f-cked up dreams sometimes, it's the craziest feeling ever, especially if I'm only halfway asleep.  My two craziest times were when I was napping in our sleeping dorm, and I start to hear random voices all around me get louder and louder, pretty much engulf me, and then boom, I can't move at all.  Another time I dreamed that I was giving a speech to a class, and it was like a speech that was going to be ridiculously groundbreaking, like I figured out quantum physics or something.  Anyways, right when I'm about to say it and blow everyone's mind away, everything turned black, and I couldn't see well but it felt like nothing existed, that I was just floating in space (paralysis kicked in), and my speech destroyed everything known to man.

I don't know how exactly to get it, but I always feel a really tingly feeling in my head right before I get it.  So anytime you wake up with a weird tingly feeling, get ready for the craziest ride in your life.

    The very best.
is that what it's called?

the moments before i go to sleep i will just think of weird things. like an assignment i need to turn in for a HS english class that I took 6 years ago.

most of the thought have to do with school. :(

and when I was coding during the summer I'd have miserable nights of sleeping thinking of weird code/math crap that had no solution or point.

then there was sunday morning when i realized i broke my finger.  :'(
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

I dunno, I do think of weird things sometimes, but I have some control over what I'm thinking of.  There are times I think I've gotten up at this stage and said some really weird things that almost make no sense if anyone was around.  Can you move your arms and legs?

It used to freak me out, but I now love it.  Like one time I looked up to see some owl-monster look down at me! :ohno:  That's when I learned to never open my eyes during it.

That's nuts.   I've dealt with this my entire life.  They've rarely been accompanied by dreams, it's mostly just an abrupt wake up into a state where I'm not sure if I'm awake or sleeping - but I can't move - and have odd hallucinations.  I've gone through different stages of what the hallucinations appeared to be.  The very first ones I remember were just black hazy clouds hanging over my bed; at the foot of my bed; or in my door way.  I was prob about 8-10 at that point and they scared the crap out of me.  For the longest time I thought I was seeing ghost.  The black Haze lasted until I was about 15 or so. They then turned into geometric shape's... really hard to describe them -- like molecule diagrams or something.  They would just float over my head and shatter when they ran into each other.   This was when I realized that I was a dumb ass for believing they were ghost.   Most recently, past 3-4 years, they've turned into bugs.   Mostly spiders;  It's irritating because I've actually woken up my wife on several occasions after coming out of this "state" smacking the wall thinking I'm killing bugs.

In High school I actually did a lot of research on it.   Sleep paralysis is actually a genetic sleeping disorder.   The way it was explained to me was there is a part of your brain that controls your motor skills that is "inactive" during your sleeping state and in a normal person stays inactive during the entire sleep process but gradually activates as you wake up.  In a person that suffers from sleep paralysis, your conscious mind activates while your subconscious mind is still in control; the part of your brain controlling motor skills stays inactive...   Leaving you paralyzed and having conscious realization of your unconscious mind.  From what I understand, dreams can trigger it; but it can also be brought on from stress or lack of sleep.

Have you ever had Night terrors?   Some people that have sleep paralysis also have night terrors.  When my sleep paralysis gets really bad, sometimes I'll start screaming in my sleep until someone wakes me up.   And now that you all know how &@#%ed up I am... I think I'll go to bed.    :nahnah:

No joke on the alien abductions though... funny how they're always dumb ass rednecks...   I suppose if I hadn't known it was a sleeping disorder, I would have made similar assumptions... or just not told anyone about it.

LOL at the shattering clouds, sounds like something you'd see on shrooms.  Can you consciously close your eyes during hallucinations?  I really have to force myself to, who knows what I would have seen...after the owl monster, I had enough of that.

It was weird the first time I had it, I just learned about the stages in REM and I swore I was awake when my eyes were flickering or whatever, so I figured, holy crap, I was awake while I was sleeping.  Never felt that again, but I didn't freak out too bad.  And you're kind of lucky dreams don't trigger it, it gets really bizarre.  One time I was napping, and I dreamed I was about to watch a scary, and when the movie started, a ton of scary images flashed through my head accompanied by screaming, and boom...I couldn't move.

I feel like I say stuff or yell, but I'm never sure if I actually do.

Usually by the time I realize what's happening, I'm able to regain full consciousness and slowly be able to move again.  I can always control my eyes, but as I've got older, it's become less severe and usually doesn't last for more than a minute or so before I can "coerce" myself to wake up.  When I first remember getting them they lasted for what seemed like an hour, but I've been told they usually don't last for more than 5 minutes or so.

There was one time, and I can't replicate this although I've tried several times, that I was in a lucid dream state early in the morning, and for some reason I opened my eyes.  I don't remember if it was a concious decision or if it just happened.  But as soon as I opened my eyes, I heard a very loud "feedback" sound.   Like it was too bright in the room and the muscles in my eyelids were flexing to remain open.   It's hard to describe.   Have you ever had really bad allergies to where your eyes were really sensetive to light and walking outside into the bright light hurt so bad having your eyes open that it was like an overload to all of your senses including hearing?   It sounds exactly like feedback on an open mic.   But anyway, as I was laying in bed and having my eyes open I continued my lucid dream of swimming; but I could visually see my ceiling fan as well as visually see what my subconcious mind was "seeing" in its dream state.  It was weird as crap.

When you wake up from it during the night, do you get a tingly feeling in your head, and if it doesn't go away, you get sleep paralysis again?  When it scared me, I usually had to get up and walk around (which was even scarier because it was the middle of the night, and I just saw some weird crap) to get the tingly feeling to go away.

I've had it a few times over many years.  Usually only lasts for what I'd guess to be 10 seconds before I can shake myself out of it.  Scary though, the last two times which have been in the last year, I can feel someone getting in bed beside me and laying down while I'm trapped and can't do crap about it.  Scary as hell I tell ya.  The first time when I did regain the ability to move I was so paniced I went into instant attack, kicking, swinging, etc..  Of course nothing was there.  The second time I didn't even roll over, partly because I was still scared/freaked, and I just told it to not try and hog any space or I'd go all religion on it.   :yikes:

Wow, you're the second person I've heard of that doesn't remember their dreams.  I used to have people that would stop by my office just to hear about the wildazz dream I'd had the night before.  I usually remember two or three a night, or pieces of them anyway.  I hate to wake up.  The real world sucks compared to my dream world.

I've had it happen 3 or 4 times.  I remember two of them well enough to go into great detail but will spare everyone the time.  I can honestly say every time this has happened it's been the most terrifying moments of my life.  I've done a little research on it over the years and read other people's accounts of this and what they've seen.  Basically what I found out is if you have these you are probably cursed by demons and going to hell.

Have a nice day.

Just happened to me again.  It's hard to describe.  I'm shaking and sweaty.  The whole thing only took 3 or 4 minutes and I had only been trying to sleep for about 15 minutes or so.  I can tell if I let myself fall back asleep I'd slip right back into it.  It's  a weird feeling similar to my head spinning right before I fall asleep.

See anything?  It's best to get up, watch TV, whatever*, get your state of mind changed.  Doesn't your head feel tingly?

i've had this happen before, kinda. only like two or three times, but it was like i was having a dream inside a dream. the first dream was very lucid with me controlling my thoughts and then when the second dream got weird/creepy/scary i would try to wake up and couldn't. kinda like having your eyelids taped open a la clockwork orange but a little different. when i finally did wake up, i then realized that i was still still in a dream, albeit an entirely less creepy one. by that time i was ready to not be asleep anymore.

i heard that you can get this sutff at like a hot topic in the mall, which i find hard to believe. no real urge to try it, heard the headache is worse than whippets.

Last night as i was fading off, i pictured someone hitting my leg. I woke up and still felt it. It didn't hurt, but i felt it. I can control when i wake up, so it usually happens when i'm asleep and it wakes me up.

I didn't see anything.  This time I knew I was asleep. Sometimes I don't know I am asleep.  I was trying to yell for help and wasn't able to.  I was dreaming too which usually doesn't happen.  I was trying to get out of the dream though and I couldn't wake up.  I was in a room by myself with a bed and a window.  The lights were on.  I had a sense that there was something on the other side of the window that I needed to get up and get away from but I couldn't.

I could hear a TV in the background.

When I came out of it my TV was on and the show I heard in the dream was on TV.

I finally made it back to sleeo with no problems after a half hour or so.

Tingly is a good description.  Terrifying is another.

    "Tacky" -Kietz
This isn't close to what you guys are talking about, but I had a crazy dream last night and it seemed self-involved to start a whole new thread about it.  Here it is:

So it's next football season, yet we're still playing ku at home.  The game is in BSFS but it's been different.  The seats are way closer to the field and there's really nothing separating the stands from the action.  It's kind of like a little high school stadium in that the fans get to their seats from the field side.  There's also no structure as to where people have to sit.  It's all GA, yet people tend to sit where they sit now.  However, for this game/dream, I sit in the front row on the east side around the south 10-yard line.  The stadium is no longer a "bowl" - you can enter/exit at field level through the south corners.

ku jumps out 54-7 or something in the 1st quarter and I get disgusted and leave.  I go to what I thought was a bar, but it's more of a cafeteria.  Once there, I learn the game isn't even on tv other than ppv that this cafeteria isn't getting.  The tv is showing basically a ESPN gametracker type screen.  As soon as I get there, KSU starts a comeback.  Early in the 3rd quarter, with both teams in the 40-60 point range and KSU down 11, we get a touchdown.  RP goes for 2, apparently so that a FG will tie.  Even in dreamworld, he's a jackass.  The conversion fails and the game moves on.

Here the game details get sketchy, but it's back and forth the rest of the way and I eventually go back to the game.  I can only squeeze into the Southeast end zone where the bulk of the ku fans are.  ku eventually wins the game by a point, going back to RP's indefensible decision to go for 2.  ku fans rush the field, mainly because the seats are essentially on the field and they're generally being jackasses.  I'm not as angry at the ku fans as I am at RP for just putting KSU fans through this misery and depriving current students of all the good times I had.  I see RP shuffling off towards the Southwest corner of the field - apparently he was just going to head out to the parking lot.  He seems oblivious to the utter mess he's caused here.  I go out towards mid-field and yell "you suck!"  He ignores me so I yell "man, you're horrible, look what you've done."  He turns to me and in a Suge Knight voice, bellows, "man, suck my muthaf*cking d*ck!"  I say, "no dude, just f*ck you."  He says, "hey, f*ck this" and pulls out a gun and points it at me.  The dream version of me, knowing RP probably sucks at everything including shooting, nonchalantly turns and walks away.  I hear him shoot multiple times, none of them coming close to me.

That's when I woke up.  I seemed to realize this had actually happened, notwithstanding that none of the premise makes sense.  I turned on ESPN hoping I could hear the approximately 87-86 score and confirm this was true.  That didn't happen and I thought "I don't need to hear this, I know it happened" and went back to sleep.  Then I woke up for real at a normal time and somehow remembered this all (I normally don't remember dreams in this much detail) and laughed.  In thinking how the dream concluded, I hope that RP ended up shooting some innocent bystander, was arrested and fired, and a new coach came in to save KSU football.

Thoughts?
