I love the whole "he's on the air, he's got to be good" argument. Incredible, really.
Why is it incredible?? Have you applied for broadcasting jobs and been turned down because you were too good??

I don't really care either way, but I've got to agree that the "he's on the air, he's got to be good" argument is one of the lamest defenses I've ever heard.
Because you have personal experience that shows otherwise or because you believe people get on the air by bribery?? What basis do you think radio broadcasters are hired upon??? (I can't wait to hear this.)

I still haven't heard you explain why 1) him having a job makes him competent and 2) we don't get to determine his competency because we've never worked in the radio industry.  Apply these two logical fallacies to other situations and see where it takes you: (McDonald's workers: "good", can't vote in elections because never run for or served in office)

While your head is spinning I'll add this:

The reason he is on the radio at all has much more to do with the size of Manhattan's media market and FCC regulations that prevent 810 and 610 from producing a signal after dark.  That and whatever retards think he is worth listening to.  A lack of competition doesn't make him good, it makes him more likely to have a job.

But feel free to bore us all with heart warming personal experiences like: 'He bought me lunch one day.  He took me aside and said I really have potential in broadcast journalism.'  They won't make him easier to listen to.
No, my personal experience is that I've worked with wannabes who aren't on the air, who aren't program directors, who aren't sideline reporters for a DI college team and who don't host a daily talk show and weekly pregame show or do coach's shows, etc.

The logic of this is just staggering.  So, I can't ever criticize and athlete because I don't have a 40 inch vertical?  I can never criticize politicians because I've never run for office?  I can't be upset at the pizza delivery guy if he brings me the wrong order because I'm just a 'wannabe?'

This is usually retort #1 when I call Marcus Watts a pussy.

FWIW

well they did just switch him positions too.

and at least hes not jesse tetuan.

FWIW, agree with Kat Kid here. Walters is painful to listen to. He's Ben Stein sans the grandeose.

Oh, and since the argument made to the contrary is brilliant, none of you can criticize my posts anymore since none of you are me.
Thx.

I still haven't heard you explain why 1) him having a job makes him competent and
He's been on the air for about 15 years (if memory serves correctly). There's certainly a large enough talent pool in a college town with cheap labor that he would be replaced if he was not competent. Also, you don't get picked by a network if they don't want you. Matt probably had to turn in audition tape to get the sideline job.

2) we don't get to determine his competency because we've never worked in the radio industry.
No, you don't get because you're not looking at all of the objective factors that are involved in employing a broadcaser. Unanimous love for a broadcaster's voice is not the deciding factor (because its impossible). Your opinion about how good or bad he sounds is nothing more than an opinion. The rest of his performance is evaluated on a variety of factors.

Apply these two logical fallacies to other situations and see where it takes you: (McDonald's workers: "good", can't vote in elections because never run for or served in office)
Strawman argument. You were making a judgment that your opinion or one vote should be how that election is decided and then you just ridicule the people who disagree.

While your head is spinning I'll add this:

The reason he is on the radio at all has much more to do with the size of Manhattan's media market and FCC regulations that prevent 810 and 610 from producing a signal after dark.
Good Lord, you can't be serious.

That and whatever retards think he is worth listening to.  A lack of competition doesn't make him good, it makes him more likely to have a job.
There's no lack of competition. Sports broadcasting attracts a large number of wannabes. K-State churns out several each year through the student radio station and Collegian. The ones with a little talent get work in the business. The better ones go to bigger markets. The most talented ones work in the biggest markets.

Congratulations. You've at least attempted to make a logical, albeit baseless, argument. I would suggest you query Rich Wartell, the general manager of KMAN radio to see if he utilized the 'Good ol' boy network' when he hired Matt several years ago. The second part of your argument is closer to reality. Keep that adjective in mind the next time you don't get a job you apply for.

And for the record, I'm not Matt. If some of you people paid attention, I said I worked with him. If I was Matt, I'd probably be searching IPs and looking for asses to kick.

Ben Stein is a successful entertainer. Are you sure you want to compare Matt to Ben Stein?? That undermines any credibility you might have thought you had.

I see you have a firm grip on satire. The bolded is pathetic.
Look, dipcrap. I never said I had any credibility in the subject. You're the one melting down; taking yourself and this guy too seriously. You're acting like I've criticized your kid with disabilities.
I simply added an opinion that he's dull to listen to-which is the comparison I was making. You then decided to change the subject and note Stein's success. Which, let's be honest, Stein's mainstream success at least partially stems from an 80's film playing the role of a boring teacher. You can't seem to stay on topic or understand your flawed logic.
The overall problem is this: you've wandered into this thread in an attempt to refute opinions (fruitless?) in whiny-little-bitch fashion with pretentious "look at me, the expert on the subject" overtones. Kat Kid asserts that your objectivity can be criticized because you have worked with him. Your putrid little meltdown eludes to it as well; taking sad little pokes at anyone that disagrees with your opinion. Particularly with the "if I were Matt" line.
Since you're apparently the only person in your mind qualified to criticize the guy, just shut the &@#% up and revel in your smug little sense of satisfaction that you're omnipotent on the matter. However, next time you consider criticizing someone's work in any particular field you don't have significant knowledge in, expect some sensitive little hemorrhoid like yourself to prate on and on about it.

Sounds like you honestly believed your post couldn't be criticized. That is pathetic KT. The point was that you're just an AIP like the rest of us. If you can't handle satire or criticism, you should probably post at Phognet.

Look, dipcrap.
KT's meltdown begins.

I never said I had any credibility in the subject.
Doesn't matter. You made an illogical comparison of someone you don't like who is successful with someone you don't like who is more successful.

You're the one melting down; taking yourself and this guy too seriously.
No, I'm just pointing out childish nonsense. The Hannah Montana Web site has openings for AIPs if you guys can't handle adult dialogue.

You're acting like I've criticized your kid with disabilities.
Maybe you did.

I simply added an opinion that he's dull to listen to-which is the comparison I was making.
Dull?? You said painful. I would have respected the former.

You then decided to change the subject and note Stein's success.
OMG, you're not actually going to dissect Ben Stein's career?? Don't do it, no, don't ... oh no too late ...

Which, let's be honest, Stein's mainstream success at least partially stems from an 80's film playing the role of a boring teacher.
You forgot the eye drops commercials.

You can't seem to stay on topic or understand your flawed logic.
I wasn't the one who brought up Ben Stein. Is his name in the thread??

The overall problem is this: you've wandered into this thread in an attempt to refute opinions (fruitless?) in whiny-little-bitch fashion with pretentious "look at me, the expert on the subject" overtones.
I'm sorry, but where do you see the words 'look at me" or "expert on the subject" in one of my posts??

Kat Kid asserts that your objectivity can be criticized because you have worked with him.
Sure, my objectivity can be criticized, but it's irrelevant when the person who hasn't worked with him is being hypocritical about his or her own objectivity.

Your putrid little meltdown eludes to it as well; taking sad little pokes at anyone that disagrees with your opinion. Particularly with the "if I were Matt" line.
IOW, you think it's acceptable for AIPs to say they hate someone, call them a tool and/or infer they are less 'sh*tty' than other people?? What would you do if you were Matt?? Throw a party???

Since you're apparently the only person in your mind qualified to criticize the guy, just shut the frack up and revel in your smug little sense of satisfaction that you're omnipotent on the matter.
And yet another strawman argument. I never said I was the only one qualified or that I was omnipotent. That's just silly. All I've done as a former broadcaster is try to correct some gross misperceptions of the business as it pertains to Matt Walter's employment.

However, next time you consider criticizing someone's work in any particular field you don't have significant knowledge in, expect some sensitive little hemorrhoid like yourself to prate on and on about it.
The only knowledge displayed in the OP was somebody utilizing the word hate and horrifying, and now we see that you're establishing yourself as an expert at calling names. Rock on KT.

I respect anyone who can call volleyball play-by-play on the radio and do an effective job of keeping up with the action. Football, basketball and baseball (especially baseball) are elementary by comparison.

Walters isn't half bad on the sideline . . . but when he and those other losers do KMAN's sports talk show, they suck.   When I first started to listen I thought that KMAN would be the one place to get some really good KSU talk, and instead there's absolutely nothing insightful, and half the time they don't know WTF is going on.
