Absolutely horrifying thought:

Quote
Matt Walters
Program Director

Matt, a 1992 K-State graduate, has been at KMAN since 1994.  He served as Sports Director for six years and has been the Program Director since 2000.  You’ll hear Matt virtually every day on KMAN middays from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. and as host of “The Game” which airs weekdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Matt serves as the play-by-play announcer for Manhattan High football and boys basketball.  He also co-hosts “Scoreboard Saturday” with KMAN Sports Director Tyler Haines.  Matt’s also very involved with Kansas State sports coverage on KMAN.  During the football season, whether K-State is at home or on the road, you’ll see Matt on location with KMAN’s “Powercat Gameday” pregame show.  He’s a part of the K-State Sports Network as the sideline announcer for KSU football, color analyst for KSU men’s basketball, and play-by-play for K-State baseball along with Brian Smoller.  Matt is also the public address announcer for the K-State women’s basketball team and has served in that role since 1994.
Matt and his wife, Megan, live in Manhattan.  He’s been active in the Manhattan American Legion Baseball program as a coach and general manager.  When he has free time, Matt enjoys golfing, traveling, and as you might imagine, watching games on TV.

The thing I like most about my job:  Meeting people
Favorite TV Shows:  Mash, Grey’s Anatomy, and Baseball Tonight
Favorite Music:  Country
Favorite Foods:  Seafood, steak, and chips
Worst habit:  Cracking my knuckles
Favorite Manhattan hangouts:  So Long Saloon and Willie’s Sports Bar
People you’d want to spend a day with:  Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods
Career goal:  “Voice of the Wildcats”

Wyatt seems bad because we've been spoiled in the past.  But if you compare him to other Big XII play by play guys...he's really not bad at all.

KSU has def been spoiled, but there are def worse than Wyatt. Listening to the MU broadcast...I about fell asleep. Whoever does their games is brutal.
Wyatt does say "spun to the ground" on about every tackle though. And I am typically completely lost on what happened on the play until Stan comes in and saves the day.   :ksu:

A friend of mine was playing the "up under center" drinking game.  I thought he was gonna die.  The same thing happens during basketball season with "between the arcs."

Where's all this disdain coming from?? At least Matt has knowledge of the program and wouldn't say things like K-State has never played an overtime game.

    The "other" KSU
Matt Walters' love of KSU sports cannot be questioned - that being said, he has niether the face for TV, nor the voice for radio. I used to live in Clay Center and on the drive home from Ft Riley - it was nearly impossible to stay concious while he was babbling about god-knows-what.

I am not sure what is worse on the senses Matt Walters' monotone Garfieldesqe voice, OR sleep deprivation - either one will put you in the ditch.

Ummmm....He's a complete tool.  I take it you've met him or worked with him, how have you not picked up on this?

He works just about every angle from high school to women's basketball to sidelines and he is just very mediocre at all of them.  God bless him, he just sucks ass.

This thread is amazingly hopeless in it's ability to provide quality material.   When we have to attack a small town radio broadcaster, it's pretty freakin' pathetic.

I've never worked with or met Matt.  That is why I can be more objective.  You don't think your personal experience colors your ability to evaluate his on-air performance?  Really?

The reasons I don't like Walters?  Primarily the voice, the reeeeally annoying voice.  Also, his talk show which provides BY FAR the worst sports analysis and coverage in the area.  Between his endless talk about high school sports, his droning on and on about women's b-ball I want to swerve into oncoming traffic whenever he is on the radio.

I also reeeeallly hate how when he gives his sideline reports his voice and delivery make it sound like the worthless information he gave was an earth shattering proclamation.

But feel free to bore us all with heart warming personal experiences like: 'He bought me lunch one day.  He took me aside and said I really have potential in broadcast journalism.'  They won't make him easier to listen to.

If he wasn't any good, he wouldn't be on the air and the network wouldn't have asked him to do sideline reports. He's no Brian Smoller, but he's certainly competent.

The reasons I don't like Walters?  Primarily the voice, the reeeeally annoying voice.
Then you're not being objective as you said.

Also, his talk show which provides BY FAR the worst sports analysis and coverage in the area.
That's nonsense. For a small market station he does an impressive job of getting high profile guests for interviews and he does a superior job of covering the regional sports teams. He knows a lot about sports from high school, college to pro.

Between his endless talk about high school sports, his droning on and on about women's b-ball I want to swerve into oncoming traffic whenever he is on the radio.
More evidence that you're not being objective. If you had kids going to school or work in one of the area high schools, you're opinion would probably be much, much different.

I also reeeeallly hate how when he gives his sideline reports his voice and delivery make it sound like the worthless information he gave was an earth shattering proclamation.
Wow, I started this reply thinking you were going to give a fair and objective evaulation. How is it objective to say you 'hate' something??

No, my personal experience is that I've worked with wannabes who aren't on the air, who aren't program directors, who aren't sideline reporters for a DI college team and who don't host a daily talk show and weekly pregame show or do coach's shows, etc.

I disagree.   I think he's a very good sideline reporter.   You could have Matt Davidson from the Huskers.

Imagine having a complete tool vs. a steady and reliable Matt Walters.

I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Maybe Kat Kid wants us to have an Erin Andrews on the sidelines and the Matt complaint is merely subterfuge.

The logic of this is just staggering.  So, I can't ever criticize and athlete because I don't have a 40 inch vertical?  I can never criticize politicians because I've never run for office?  I can't be upset at the pizza delivery guy if he brings me the wrong order because I'm just a 'wannabe?'

I don't think Watts is a FP quite yet, he just refuses to tackle or make any tangible impact this year aside from an int against Auburn.  He's slowly becoming Cooper-esque.

I don't think Cooper missed any games with a strained labia (Watts, UT).

True, but both ended up being touchdown machines (for the opposing team).
