The Big 12 owns contracts with eight bowl games, and 10 teams could be looking for holiday cheer.

Just beyond this season’s halfway point, only Iowa State, 1-6, and Baylor, 3-4, appear out of the running.

Although some schools have been known to refuse bids in a coaching change situation (cough, Texas A&M at Nebraska this weekend, cough), that would be an exception to the rule — you go where you’re wanted.

The Big 12 is keeping an eye on the Pac-10 because it appears the league won’t have enough teams eligible to full its six bowl slots.

Where teams could end up (I find some of these laughable):

Oklahoma - Fiesta
Missouri - Sugar
Kansas - Cotton
Texas - Holiday
Texas Tech - Alamo
Kansas State - Sun
Oklahoma State - Insight
Texas A&M - Independence
Colorado - Texas
Nebraska - Armed Forces

I find a potential Sun Bowl vs. Oregon or Arizona State to be an intriguing possibility.

At least the hookers are cheap in Ciudad Juárez ... if you don't get shot off the bridge on your way over.

So much for the "World Greatest Fans" distinction that we had earned in the 90s

    The "other" KSU
The Holiday Bowl would be GREAT!!! Does anyone see a meltdown with either ku or MU as the season rolls on? BTW if ku gets the Cotton, that will suck as there will be a TON of empty seats.

    Overkill. It works.
Yep, the main problem I see with ku rising in the football ranks is that their fans are still mostly basketball fans who look at football as an amusing sideshow before basketball season starts.  Of course, that means they're not going to take many fans to a bowl game.  I seem to remember a few years ago they were having a hard time giving away tickets to their bowl game against N.C. State.

Nebraska - Armed Forces

Don't you need 6 wins to be in a bowl game?
Q: What do you call multiple millionaires sitting around a TV watching the BCS Championship Bowl game?
A: The Nebraska Cornhusker coaching staff.

Q: What do you call a Nebraska Coach with a BCS National Championship Bowl ring dated after 1997?
A: A thief.

Hilarious. God you f-ing suck.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

The Big XII has 8 Bowl Tie ins:

Already eligible

Kansas
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech

On the Bubble

Colorado
Kansas State
Nebraska
Oklahoma State

So that leaves 4 teams for 2 spots.

Colorado has a tough schedule with games at Texas Tech and Missouri comes to Boulder. If they drop those games they join the 6-6 club.

I think the Cats will be fine because I see them winning against Baylor, at Iowa State and at Nebraska. I could also see them winning both of the games with Missouri and at Fresno State but we'll talk about those later.

Nebraska may not win another game. The only probable win I see for them is at Colorado on November 23.

Oklahoma State is the wildcard to me. They've got a tough schedule (Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma) with a layup at Baylor mixed in there. They can outscore just about anybody.

Here's how I see the 8 bowl tie ins shaking out:

Kansas
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
Kansas State
Oklahoma State

Colorado could sit at home for the Holiday's by default. I just really don't want to end up in either the Texas or Insight Bowls. I'm sure the Bowl Projections won't be pretty tomorrow but if we can get these three wins (Baylor, at Iowa State and at Nebraska) we'll be sitting at 7-3 and I don't think we'll have to worry about those bowls.
