You know the Huskers will make a strong push for this guy.  Right now I'd say he edges out Pete Carrol, but that's only because of the three Super Bowls and because the Patriots are undefeated right now.  If Carrol somehow wins another National Title at SC this year, things could change.  I'd say Bill Cowher might have a shot, but he's got to realistically be way down the list.

Feel free to add other names, but try to keep it realistic.

Tom Osborne, he's already put himself in position to name himself the new coach.   :cyclist:

Vince Lombardi

Lombardi definitely fits the bill, but age is a factor.

Again, keep it realistic.

From "Husker"

quote:

Here is something that appeared about 20 minutes ago from the guy who first broke the story about AD Steve Pederson being fired and Tom Osborne hired to replace him. Apparently more is going on right now:

quote:

OK, Guys, there appears to be a “Phase II” brewing in Lincoln.

From corroborating sources who have proven very reliable in recent days:

It appears that Callahan, Cosgrove, Elmassian, and Wagner were all asked to resign over the weekend, again yesterday (BEFORE the press conference), and flatly refused, seeking not only the buyouts to which they’d be contractually entitled if fired, but actually seeking sweetened deals to get the hell out of Dodge. NU is working on a package whereby they would "resign", rather than be fired by Tom or Perlman.

There is a strong possibility that these four will be dismissed very soon. The interim plan has Shawn Watson as Offensive Coordinator, Bill Busch as Defensive Coordinator, and none other than CHARLIE MCBRIDE as interim Head Coach! Word is that George Darlington and Milt Tenopir might come on board on an interim basis, as well.

The remaining assistants: Gilmore, Rudolph, and Wyatt, along with Watson and Busch, would have opportunities for retention under a new Head Coach.

One of the goals is to identify which recruits would be retained, so that any defections could be replaced well ahead of signing day, in order to salvage the 2007 class.

Osborne apparently agreed to these plans in principle even before being named Athletic Director, and it could go down almost immediately, or could happen after Saturday's game.

Another notable tidbit:

Bo Pelini HAS been in contact with Osborne regarding the Head Coach position, and is VERY interested. He has reiterated his admiration of Marvin Sanders as a candidate for Defensive Coordinator.

Some bits and pieces of this scenario have appeared elsewhere on the internet, but the sources used here are separate, and have yet to be wrong about recent goings on in Lincoln.

Let me stress this: The situation is very fluid, and there are lawyers deeply involved, so it may not go down as quickly as we might wish, and it may not ALL happen, as negotiations continue.

I would love it.  Pelini is a certified dumb f**k.  I hear he can't get through the mazes on the back of McDonalds placemats in under 7 minutes.

QFT  Bo Peep would be Nebraska's John Blake.  They've yet to realize that they could do significantly worse than Slashahan.

Does anyone think that the HC from Rutgers would come to Lincoln and "Chop some wood" I would not have wood if he became the coach at NU.

On second thought it's not going to be Bo Peep, he doesn't have the necessary ties to the program to fit in the template:

1. The Legend (Osborne / Switzer)
2. The Heir Apparent fired for being very successful but not as much so as the Legend (Solich / Gibbs)
3. The Outsider with the biggest name who could be conned into taking the job (Callahan / Schnellenberger)
4. The Insider hired to placate fans because only those with "ties to the program" can have success there (??? / Blake)
5. The KSU assistant (??? / Stoops)

The formula for success is clear, let's hope the Bugeaters aren't smart enough to recognize it.

If Miami couldn't lure Schiano to come back and chop wood for the 'Canes, there ain't a snowballs chance in hell he would leave what he's got to go to the corn.

I am going to laugh when they get to #4 on the list and start seriously talking about Jim Leavitt.

This is only the beginning.........

Appearantly you don't have a coach on your staff that can keep his team within thirty points of another Big XII team.  Or keep Ball State under 600 yards of offense.  Or keep fans in the stands for an entire first half.

*edit- Sorry, I forgot your win over ISU.  I stand corrected.

My make believe pretend I'm a Husker administrator list:

1. Bo Pelini (< LOL he's not smart)
2. Jim Leavitt (< He hopefully won't even consider it)
3. Turner Gill (< May be Tom's choice and probably sucks)
4. Brian Kelly (<  :ohno:)

Of these I hope Pelini gets it because he's retarded.  Then again other programs may be interviewing him and why the hell would he turn down the Arkansas or A&M job to go to s**tty Lincoln where they already fired him once.  I think the worst thing that couls happen is getting Brian Kelly because he is the next Urban Meyer.

The Nubb job is still an extremely desirable position, but I think Leavitt has it made at USF.  Great stadium, beautiful surroundings, relaxed admission standards, a huge enrollment, and some of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country within driving distance.  They're basically Miami, but with better facilities.  Also, getting to the BCS is always within reach in the Big East.  Plus, he doesn't have every resident of his state second guessing every decision he makes.  So that's like USF-200/UNL-0, if you're keeping track.

Yes, that would suck.  He passed on Bama though so I don't think NU has a legit shot at him.  But, yeah, that would suck.

I've never said he would take the NU job I was just saying what the average Nubb fan's list probably looks like.  Also, UNL will pay a lot more than he gets now.  He should lead them on and get a big raise out of the deal from USF ala Rich Rod and Schiano (he will do that this year if he's smart with some program just don't know if it will be UNL)

The Nubb job is still an extremely desirable position ....

I think you really have to qualify this statement.  The nubby spot is certainly attractive to three groups of persons: 1) young unproven coaches trying to make a name for themselves; 2) over the hill coaches with solid but dusty resumes who are trying to resurrect dead careers; and 3) bugeater loyalists whose corn-colored glasses see only the glory days.  The nubbies believe themselves far above group 1 and have just been burned by someone from group 2, thus my money's on group 3 or their John Blake being the hire.
