our best NT vs. Colorado was not Cline or Balkcom, it was Crews.  Easily was Crews.

No reason to think Crews w/ another year wouldn't be consistently better than Cline.  Balkcom would be back and should be a year better.  Add X Stewart and Finau and it looks like we're still trying to bring in another JC Nose and possibly a prep Nose.

I think we would all agree that '07 Abana is better than '06 Manu.  One would think Abana would progress and be a pretty solid player in '08 at the strongside DE.  Campbell can also steal some reps there as he is this year.  We'll need either a JC or Ralph Guidry to provide further depth on that side.

That leaves the RDE..  I don't know how we can replace Rob.  It will likely be by committee and I'm hopeful we can bring in two talented JC's..hopefully one or both could be December guys but that may be a stretch to hope for given track record of JC's.

I think we'll be okay at LB...remember, everybody returns but Roland.  It appears we're looking for a JC inside LB.  Antwon Moore returns plus we add Olu Hall  :woohoo:.  If KSU could land Arthur Brown that will be a bonus.

Safety...lose Watts but we have played w/ out him quite a bit the past few years and that has allowed Herndon and Carney to really develop.  Erker can get reps  :jerkoff:...Chandler back AND Tigner added to the mix.  Safety...don't see why we can't be solid there as we have been okay w/ out Watts vs. some potent passing attacks.

Corner depth.  Cheatham and Josh Moore return.  The only real loss is McKinney.  Baldwin has given us some spot duty and Garvin....seems like he screws up a lot.  Need at least two newbies to contribute...one could come from Otis or Kendrick and then I suspect some JC's coming in.

Biggest losses from this D would be McKinney(though moreso from a depth perspective) and Rob Jackson.

discuss?

Now if we can cage them up feed them raw Yak meat for a year and zap them with a cattle prod while they stare at pictures of Jake Sharp and Brandon Mcanderson.

    The very best.
interesting note:

on offense, 8/11 are prince recruits
on defesne, only 4/11 are prince recruits
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Now that's how you get out a f***ing blood stain.

Seems easier to fit old players into a new scheme on defense than on offense.
When I was a kid growing up in the projects, I used to dream of going into space, of escaping the slums, of killing an Ewok!

however...

if Cheatham doesn't get hurt...he's starting.  If Josh didn't tutor up..he's starting.  Carney looks like he is taking over starting spot.  That would be 3 of 4 in the secondary.  Roland, Patterson, and Twon Moore are Prince as will be Olu.  Jackson, Manu, and Abana were...Crews was our best Nose vs. CU.

There are more fingerprints of Prince on this defense than meets the eye and if Josh and Twon are healthy/not suspended the numbers change.

qft's across the board.

It's amazing what kind of stamp Prince has put on this program in 2 short years. His 2006 class was pretty much incredible.

yes, it's the reason CU only put up 20.

But......it's largely just from 3 games....we looked just as good vs the run the 1st 3 games.

Mckinney has really stepped up his game and eliminated alot up stupid plays. And Carney is coming on like the second coming of Jon Mcgraw.

    This ZERO is my Hero
I was very surprised to see Crews out there against CU.  And even more surprised to see him having an impact.  That was very encouraging to see, and hope we get to see more of him.

It is very impressive to see the stamp Prince has put on this team.

How pumped are you going to be, if we go down to OSU and win?

my guess at the depth chart:

de- Ian Campbell/ JC/ JC - Ian is playing more DE then OLB this year already
ng- Crews/ Balkcom or Stewart or Finau- Crews stepping up is big others need too as well
de- M Abana/ R Guidry/ P Kirk- expect improvement from Abana need to build depth
olb- A Moore/ Patterson/ Ross Diehl- Healthy Moore is huge with an improved Patterson
ilb- John Houlik/ Kevin Rohleder/ JC- Houlik has shown he can play need to build depth
ilb- Reggie Walker/ Davyon McGhee/ Mack Rosel- same as above
olb- Eric Childs or Olu Hall- Childs has been ok not spectacular but Hall will push him
cb- Cheatam/ O Johnson or McCellan- need depth here not worried about the starters
cb- J Moore/ K Matthews/ JC- same as above if Moore is here the starters are set
ss- Gary Chandler/ C Herndon/ A Erker- very solid position experience and depth
fs- C Carney/ D Tigner/ K Hollis- another strong position with Carney and young talent

Interesting... I was pondering this today as well. I have a feeling Campbell will be be back to DE next year with the addition of Hall. What do you think Hatter?

Right now the DL is nothing but speculation and hope that existing players get better.  The only certainty is that the DL will improve if Ian is back there full time.

Roland is far and away our best ILB.  Houlik has all the tools he needs to excel, but hasn't been able to get off blocks well enough to play ILB especially given that we'll be at best average at NT.

Lots of talent, but not sure it adds up to a good 3-4.
