Not trying to be too powertardish and overstate how he played in a defenseless scrimmage, but I'm curious what people think his potential is. Could he be Shawn Rhodes good?

Shawn Rhodes is a good comparison.

Defense is the liability here, and that will decide how much time he gets
on the court. But he could become a dangerous player off the bench when
teams start keying on the trio of Beasley, Walker, and Hoskins.

Can't see him being a consistent producer, but I could see him getting
into double figures every now and then.

If Kent can find some playing time, which may be a tough quest, he could be the next Kevin Pittsnagle, and although he is a personally hated member of their hillbilly squad, he did have a key spot on their reasonably successful team...

I think defense will be his forte. He'll get pushed around early on and then be solid.

Thanks for the feedback.

I brought up Rhodes because that's who he reminded me of during the scrimmage. A 6'10" Lanky white guy knocking down threes and running the floor. Who knows if he can look as good against actual defenses, or playing defense himself for that matter, but he's probably going to have to play some significant time either way.

Somebody has to step up and give this team frontcourt minutes off the bench. At this point, I definitely don't see Colon being that guy. Between Anderson and Kent, Kent looked better Friday. Gilbert is still an unkown and Sutton won't be here until December (if at all).

Losing Samuels, Sutton and Dubuvitsky really changed the make-up of the bench. DK is suddenly somebody we may need to rely on.

I think he'll get his minutes. Huggs kept sending him in last year when he didn't contribute a dam thing that I could see -- so the coaches must like him. If he can hit from the outside anywhere near like he did Friday, some opposition big is going to have to step out to guard him, giving BW, MB and Hoskins that much more room inside.
Also, he's a clear zone buster and a lot of teams are going to be forced to zone us this year.
But I expect the early character of this team to be defined by defensive intensity. So his ability to contribute to that will determine his PT.

They'd stick a guard on him any time he went to the perimeter. He'd never draw a big out.

I see Kent having little to no role at all! I see us playing an up and down style with use playing 2 gaurds and 3 forwards with Beasley playing the 5! I see us playing zone to protect us going small with hoskins and walker at the 3 and 4 spots! Zone will also keep our 2 studs of foul trouble as well! Then when we play teams with true centers( Nebraska) we will play Colon and Anderson more! I also dont buy into DK regardless of added bulk!

I would love it if he could be as good as Shawn Rhodes was. I don't think there's any chance of that happening, unfortunately.

I'm talking about coming off the bench early in the season. I obviously don't think the guy is going to start, but Beasley, Walker and Hoskins can't play 40 mins a game. Anderson and Colon don't seem like the guys that are going to come in and run up and down the court.

While he never did anything great, he helped the team by not f*cking up nearly as much as Colon or Bennett. So that's kind of a contribution.

That's what I see DK's role as this year. Contribute by not being a complete liability on the court. Just be a competent basketball player. I don't think you can ask for much more from him.

He's got a better skill set than most of you guys are giving him and he understands the game flow very well. He can pass, both high and low, as well as on the interior. He can shoot the 3, despite last years results, he'll be asked to score this year IMO, the points are there. He plays good D, just needs to hold his ground against other bigs. I expect to see him running a high post with a lot of backdoor activity from the others. He'll step out and drop the bombs if they calapse too much on D. We'll see.

I dont think that his skill set really matters all that much. Its really a matter of matching up with the other team and if they have a true big man than DK wont see the court unless they just want to use up the six fouls he has. I also think everyone is overlooking the amount of progress the coaches think Colon has made. From talking with players and people close to the program they think he has improved his defense 10 fold over the off season. Look for Colon rather than DK to get the extra minutes.

his 06-07 stats are horrible. hopefully he didn't have enough minutes for them to be meaningful.

FINALLY, a voice of reason! I couldn't agree more with you. Kent is athletic, smooth and has a great stroke. Oh, and he's 6'10"! But most of all, he's 6'10"!! If the coaches can get him to man-up on defense, I think DK can play a significant role. Who's going to guard the 6'10" kid shooting a three? He just needs to concentrate on defense!

Can't wait for basketball season to begin!
