Fact is that Pederson did the only thing that would placate the irrational corn fans (that's all of them for those of you following along at home): he hired a big name rather than a good coach.  Nebraska desperately needs a Ron Prince but the smart money says they'll hire another Bill Callahan ... or if we're very fortunate a Howard Schnellenberger.

The best bet is that they throw money at Turner Gill. They want to have a dead sexy-lite ala Ron Prince.

Think Bo.... You guys love him..

I do. The Wildcats drilled the last defense he put together up there...I think Cosgrove is next.

QFFT, I have a fantasy about him looking up at Ron with tears in his eyes and losing it because he got beat so badly.  Bill Snyder looks on from pressbox and tells somebody in the booth that Ron is a talented youngster.

makes perfect sense...

Callahan's not out just yet, true.  But who in their right mind would keep him at this point?  Press Conference scheduled for 4pm CST.  Rumors abound about what will be said.  Some of my favorites...

* Tom Osborne for interim Atheltic Driector.

*Cosgrove fired as DC immediatly

*Dave Rimington possible permanent AD

*Bo Pelini or Brent Venables for HC.

Should be interesting.

There really isn't much left to salvage from this season so I can't see why the corn would bother with wholesale coaching changes right now.  Firing Pederson will: get the team's attention; alert the staff to begin polishing their resumes; and put every potential candidate in the country on notice that the HC spot is open.  A bunch of midseason staff turmoil isn't going to accomplish much more.

Texas Tech had some good luck with changing DC in mid stream, but it wouldn't help here.. Wait till December and can most of the staff..

I agree.  There's enough talent there to play significantly better than the team has the past couple of weeks, firing Pederson might be enough of a wake up call to improve the on-field performance somewhat.

*Bo Pelini or Brent Venables for HC.

Where do I begin?  Lucky should like BV, they have many, many qualities/traits that are identical.

NU football situation is similar to KSU basketball (on a smaller scale)

NU hires a desciple of the departing great coach (Solich = Altman)

He does fairly well, but not as well as the mentor, so he gets canned and finds success at a mid-major.  Then...

NU hires sexy name, but probably not their first choice (Cal = Asbury)
Said choice doesn't fit the personality of the program or school at all.  He has some minor success before running the program into the ground.  Coach is dismissed (as Cal will be) when program is at lowest point in decades (as NU will likely be).

So the next hire is going to be the Wooly hire.  A guy that everybody loves and keeps the program right on the verge of being mediocre for six seasons.  He will be recomended by a legend coach of the program (Osborne = Tex Winter) Should be fun.
